Sporting CP (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

They really did make us pay for our missed chances last night, in the first half the 4.1 result looked way off.
Any club missing key players will struggle and City are no different, KDB Grealish Stones Walker Dias Rodri Ake Bobb all struggling, then we have players who are carrying knocks and need rest and recovery time.

We are Manchester City Champions 4 times in a row and 6 titles in 7 seasons for a reason, We go again at the weekend that is how we operate, one game at a time.
MCFC OK

We have 3 of our most important midfielders all north of 30 - where are the 24-26 year olds?
We let a 22 year old go recently. He was quite tidy too.
We have been too busy winning trophies in the here and now (which is good)
but too relaxed about squad planning (not soo good)

we don't have a left back. Our specialist right back is 34. Ake, John and Akanji are 29/30 and are injury prone. Our youngest centre back is now a left back. Kev, Gundo, Bernie, Kovo are well past their prime. Savinho and Doku have promise and are clearly skilful but end product is not good enough yet. One striker. Fuck knows what is going on with Jack. He has had one part of a season really good and the rest......Fixing this is not one window and we will do well to complete it in two. The last time we bought 6 first team ready players was in 10/11. Its been a couple max in good years since then. Lets see what the new boy does.

Not sure if it was evident on TV, but one thing that frustrated me from behind the opposite goal in the First Half was the lack of movement from his teammates on the 3-4 occasions when Savinho received a long pass on his front foot (as Mahrez used to do) and went past the full back.

On each occasion Savinho dribbled towards goalkeeper who was then obliged to commit himself to the near post.

It was literally crying out for a simple pull back and goal (or at worse a clearance off the line), but the left footed Haaland Foden and Silva had all run to the far post and the other midfielders were nowhere to be seen.

United create these chances every week, but Garnacho always blazes over the bar
City win a corner.

We played well enough in the 1st half despite all those players missing. We committed footballing suicide that 2nd half for some reason, it was horrendous from us. We need to draw a line under the past 7 days results and limit the damage. So yes, come on City onwards and upwards.

If Haaland doesn’t score. Where does the goal threat come from? Foden? It should be our wingers and none of them are consistent goal scorers like we had with Raz , Sane and Mahrez.

There’s the problem. If Haaland isn’t clinical we have no other goal scorer to rely on

Ake and Walker didn't come off the bench so obviously still carrying injuries. I just think too many players were out and as you say the missed chances in the first half.

Rodri missing is not the problem, it's the other 7 key players missing that the squad can not cope with,
Yes, the Media make out City have a very big squad and millions sat on the bench every week, The lazy Media writing shit about City but how wrong they are about the depth of this City Squad is,

Nobody can have 8 senior players out and still be strong every week, Also Nobody can have 8 senior players out and the rest are struggling to find any sort of form and carrying knocks but have to play 3 games in a week.

It is easy sat here to saying play some more youth players or change the setup or play somebody else at left-back
What we are saying, Pep is wrong ? Come on, if anybody questions Pep they are clueless about football

I was trying to think back to when a Pep substitute made any impact on a game . Bobb at Newcastle last season.
We regularly see other teams launching their bench of eager athletic subs to turn the game.

He is stubborn so he thinks the way he sets up can get the job done. A lot of time it can due to the quality of our players, when it clearly isn't working though he is slow to mix it up. Very bizarre.
