Sporting CP (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

The Boys in Blue didn’t give in. They fought to the end. However it wasn’t to be tonight unfortunately. Thank you City. Thank you Boys. But most especially Thank you Fans. You didn’t let us down. You cheered them to the end. Thank you well done.
We live to fight another day.
Not going into any details will just say a bad day at the office!! :-(

Meh I’m more annoyed we lost to the twat taking over at the rags than the loss it self as we’re piss poor at the min and could easily lose to Brighton and that’s just the reality of where we are at the minute
It's a huge ask for us to match Brighton's energy tbf. All team's cycles come to an end at some point. Amazing we have had years at the top - hard to keep that energy and desire - you can sort of sense Pep feels this as well. I can't really see him b*llking the players for this like he would have done even a season ago..everyone and everything just looks a little tired (metaphorically and physically). I think the Rodri injury really deflated Pep as well as the team

Its been coming.
We have been extremely lucky to win some of the PL games this season, Spurs and Bournemouth could have had 5 against us.
Team is too old, too slow and the game has moved on now with every team having pace and energy and we look like a team of plodders playing Soccer Aid.
Shocking transfer windows have left us a squad with a complete lack of pace, creativity and more importantly goals.
We play wingers who offer us zero goals ( Diaz got hat trick for Dippers tonight), and our 1 striker is missing chances galore atm.
Tonight is no surprise to us, same old case of missing chance after chance after chance and cut open at will and concede from almost every shot.

Remember when Pep said he would make a decision to stay or not based on player performance and of they were still giving everything for him?

Well, there'll be no shortage of headlines and articles about us tomorrow, across all outlets.
Oh the headlines won’t be about us though will they. That’s what’s pissed me off as well, we all know it will be all about the rags new manager beating Pep.

We have a very slow team, there is no pace, it is all control and at times ineffective possession. We often control the ball so much we switch off and lose concentration and subsequently possession.

I didn't think much of them in the first half but they found our weaknesses with ease in the second. Of course our comical defending didn't help. We were very slow to react to what was happening on the pitch which was a worry.

Been coming for ages, maybe it has to happen for Pep to get his head out of his arse and fix the glaring problems. And if it does have to happen, I'd rather it be in this competition where it doesn't matter at this stage than in the league.

So many people are looking in the wrong direction for the problem here though blaming players. It's nothing to do with the players, it's all on pep and his sunday league suicide shape. This will not be fixed until he changes the shape, doesn't matter who plays.

The worrying thing is pep has had weeks upon weeks of us scraping through gametoagainst week opposition to spot and fix it, he hasn't so I've no faith he'll do what's neccesary by the weekend and as a result i fear Brighton will be an ugly bloodbath.
Pep is undoubtedly a genius but with top quality players. He isn't a genius at the moment. We've lost the quality.

The past week has been absolutely not good enough, on and off the pitch.

Serious questions need asking of everyone involved but the main one is.. 'When is this squad finally going to get angry this season?'

When it does, the run-in might actually take off..

Soppy cunts in the matchday thread man, it was a shit game, it happens, people are acting like we're 10 points behind in the league and nowhere near the top of CL table thing
This feels like the “we’re still unbeaten” comments from a few weeks back. It will be our reality soon enough.

I try and be as positive as I can on this sort of stuff, and never say never, but it looks and feels like it's one too many for this squad. It happens, and there's a reason why four in a row, let alone five, hasn't been done.

We either need a change of philosophy (which won't happen, and fairly so), we need some players to get fit and stay fit (which doesn't look likely right now), or we just need to get our heads down, cling on as best we can, and see if we can buy in January.

What I'd give for a Roméo Lavia and Cole Palmer right about now. Hmmm.

The only thing that I'm annoyed about is the Amorim love-in that will now follow.

The loss of Rodri, Dias, Stones, Grealish, Bobb, Walker, and the lack of fitness of Ake, Akanji, and DeBruyne are too big a factor to ignore. Nevertheless, we should have been in front and coasting, and I enjoyed the first-half very much.

Fortunately, I don't give much of a toss about this tournament because I would be bouncing if this was the PL, and especially at the start to the second-half that was the place the game was truly lost.

Nunes ?
I thought it was difficult for him playing on the left side in recent games ….but on the right he is even worse !
And no I am not singling him out….there was many others out there who were just as bad ….
He’s not even a winger…
