This was disappointing, especially given Spurs’ current situation. The atmosphere was strange today, their fans felt really apathetic. In the first half we should have put the game to bed. We played some really good combination football at times but eased off, could have been three or four goals up.
Cherki was outstanding, silky and intelligent on the ball, with a great feel for the game. I don’t think Haaland and Semenyo together is a great balance, but when you have someone like Cherki alongside them it can work. The problem is when you take him off and the replacements are Reijnders who’s still settling and a low confidence Foden. You just can’t replace that level of control and creativity.
On top of that, we have so many injuries. Doku is out, Diaz out, Rodri has only just returned, Gonzalez is coming back from injury, Gvardiol is injured, Savinho is out. When you’re in a transition like this and lack cohesion, those missing relationships matter more.
Yes, it’s frustrating in the context of the title race, but I’ll take a point away at a ground we traditionally struggle at. The focus now is on regrouping and moving forward. Liverpool will be tough next week but if we get a few key players back and learn from today, there’s every chance we can get a result Anfield especially given how inconsistent they’ve been this season.
The reaction from some people has been completely ott. Calling for Pep to leave is ridiculous and out of touch. It was a draw away, not a disaster. We should support the team, especially with a cup semi final coming up and hopefully a final after that.
