Spurs (A) - Post-Match Thread

It’s not being a bad fan to be a bit worried at present. We have only played well in 20min or so spells in games in all seasons. Lots of injury Covid and pre-season reasons of course but the team isn’t playing well and it doesn’t look like it is getting fixed.

we were very soft last season too

Fernandinho did it.

Instead of going for someone similar we went for someone who would stand out in La Liga.

He's too slow and his nice passing doesn't make up for his lack of pace, he doesn't control midfield and in this team with a high line is continually outrun from midfield.

And today was against a team that allowed him to have the ball. Against a team that presses he is even worse.
I pointed out he wasn’t as mobile as Fernandinho, we were also a different proposition then, teams would be afraid to commit as many men forward for fear of us breaking on them with pace, so it’s difficult to make that comparison!

Not many cases there to suggest he was as atrocious as you said he was tonight.

1st half controlled it .... left-back goes AWOL Eddie brainfart 0.1
2nd half controlled it ....right back goes AWOL Eddie brainfart 0.2
75% possession but committed 78% of the fouls WTF
Harry Kane is very very very good at the dark arts ( see also Salah, Mane, Vardy & the whole United Squad)
Mike Dean gives every team we play 5 soft fouls to every one he gives for us.
Wolves away looks about as good as it gets.
Every game seems like a scripted WWE royal rumble and guess which team gets a ladder thrown at it from a great height every week?
If Paul Bearer polishing his Urn was sat next to Jose on the bench would anybody be surprised?

I stayed away from the internet all day to wait and watch this with my old man. In hindsight we probably could have found a better use of time...

I think the most damning thing I can say is I thought we actually looked a bit improved in this match...and a 2-0 loss still felt deserved.

For two seasons now we've just been ... bleh. Really lacking intensity and creativity. And I'm not sure how to fix it but missing out on the champions league could have some very serious consequences In general, Peps tactics feel very stale and he seems so lethargic and reluctant to make adjustments in game compared to a few seasons ago. And the squad in general feels like a collection of decent players rather than a cohesive, free-flowing unit. Perhaps most importantly we're desperately lacking game changers, especially with an out of form KDB.

All in all the sky isn't falling but this is certainly a frustrating team at the moment. I think we need another strong window to turn this around completely but we desperately need to improve soon. At the very least we should not be behind fucking United in the table right now.

You have your opinion & I respect it but unfortunately Rodri isnt good enough
A. Under Pressure
B. Cant get back to block
C. Does not show for the ball unless he has 10 yards of freedom
D. Slows play

Now his good points

A. Looks great playing against poor opposition
B. Neat with his short passing when ball at his feet

Thats me now struggling to find anything posditive against top teams

£62m along with Mendy poor signings
Yes, like yon say we have opinions. Though mine were based purely on tonight’s game when I was asked what did he do well tonight ?! Yours seem to be general points ?? I’ve never lauded him as a top player ideal for our team playing this formation, I just happen to think he was probably our best performer tonight.

Furthermore, thought he was excellent when he was under pressure tonight, always shrugged them off and never gave the ball away.

Apart from Mahrez being picked and the injuries or lack of match fitness I thought the team picked was as strong a team as we could put on the pitch.

Having said that, every team in every league know our Krytonite.

They know if they sit back and throw 2 lines of 4 tightly together we will struggle to get through there lines. We also allow both fullbacks to venture forward which allow us to get countered with pace. They know if they sit there long enough we will lose possession and they will be able to attack our stretched defense. IMO Kyle Walker must be used to defend and be part of the last line of defense utilising his electric pace, Not as an attacking option which the vast majority of times comes to nothing.

Most importantly we need a defensive coach because we are absolutely fucking dire at defending. I`m of the opinion that who ever we buy in defense we will turn to shit because of our system.

Because we are so frail in defense it means the opponents can afford to sit and wait for the missed pass which lets them in.

Even Port Vale used this ploy against us.
Agree with most of that except Phil Foden says hi
