Spurs (A) | Post-Match Thread

Mendy is so bad I'm really struggling to see how he keeps getting a game. Grealish looked good, great to see De Bruyne back, I'm going to have to take Pep's word that he had no choice with that starting line up, but I'm surprised KDB didn't come on earlier.

Extremely frustrated. Set out to fail from the very start. I very rarely blame Pep, but this was almost entirely on him. Mismanaged as badly as the Champions League final. Nobody can explain why Mendy played almost 80 minutes. He created just about every chance Spurs had. We had so many warnings, you’d need to be blind, deaf and stupid not to realise what was coming.

Honestly, we’re fortunate that the game was against Spurs. We’d have been hammered by a better side and still lost to a much lesser side. Torres barely touched the ball. He can’t play on the wing because he can’t go past a defender and barely touches the ball. Turns out he’s no better playing centrally. I was concerned when we signed him. I’ve nothing against him personally. I can’t deny that he tries. He just isn’t suited to the league and that was entirely predictable.

Need more aggression. Should Ederson have saved that. Ake, Mendy, Cancelo are mere back up players. Got to go with

Ederson
Walker Dias Stones Zin
Kdb Rodri Grealish
Mahrez Kane (poss) Raheem

I would pay for a quality Left back and sell fringe players if needs be. The only potential weakness above could be Rodri, its this year or bust for him.

Bar the first 15-20 minutes we were poor, Shooting ourselves in the foot again with missed opportunities in that period we were in top.
De Bruyne sparked us into life somewhat when he came on, Gundogan was non existent along with Sterling and Mahrez.
The less said about Benjamin Mendy the better, It really is mind blowing he actually makes a living from this game along with lasting 80 minutes of that match, Pep should of had him off at half time, Walker or Zinchenko definitely had 45 minutes in them.
The goal is usual away at Tottenham is so so scruffy, Akè let him get his shot away and Mendy never closed down along with Ruben being too deep.

Seems to be just the norm now going away to this lot expecting a defeat (as a fan) it really is a hoodoo ground.

Anyway, We'll keep going.

What a small club mentality.
It is like they have just won the FA Cup.
Completely OTT
Give over! I fucking hate this attitude from our fans.

Their star player and captain doesn’t want to play for them anymore and wants to play for the team they played in the first game back after 18 months without being allowed to go to football games, who just happen to be the best team in the country and a bit of a big rival of Spurs.

If they didn’t celebrate like that, I’d think there was something wrong with them. Good on them, obviously meant a lot to them.

We have this attitude every time someone beats us, calling other clubs for being happy to beat us and creating a great noise because of it. It’s probably why the Etihad is like a morgue 95% of the time, we’ve got fans who think they’re too cool and too big to make noise.

I think people underestimate the importance of Home game and fans this season. You could see Spurs growing in confidence with the fans
Definitely. It also means anyone saying “let’s wait until November to really get going, it worked last season” is fooling themselves

Voted for a loss when i saw the dream team of Alty and Atwell, and Alty was his usual disgrace when officiating us but i can't even blame him for this shit show.
Rags, Dippers and Chavs hit the ground running, we looked unready.
Team selection was a joke and just like last year, we simply are pathetic in front of goal.
We have a keeper who does not make many saves and is often out of position, Ake/Mendy/Cancelo are simply no where near the required level, we offer absolute nothing in front of goal with Torres his usual invisible self, Sterling picking up where he left off and Mahrez hot/cold depending on how he feels and our midfield is simply too slow.
Grealish will be a great buy for us but we are more in need of a LB, World Class striker and DM.
If we do not address the striker situation we will finish 3rd at best this season. Now lost 5 of our last 7 competitive games

What the fuck was all that walking with ball by Mendy. He did my head in with it.

We got punished again for missing chances. Gonna be a long hard season this season I reckon. Teams have strengthened, and will be a lot harder to beat this season.

Norwich up next. Need to get the 3 points next week
If we lose to them I will really get worried.

I could understand the first half disjointedness, but the second half was extremely disappointing from Pep and the players. Obviously we are missing a lot of first-choice players but that wasn't a particularly strong Spurs team.

Our transition out of the back was really poor without Stones and/or Laporte. Dias and Aké are comfortably our worst passers from central defence.

Fernandinho started OK but was caught and overrun in central midfield too often as the game went on. It didn't help that instead of Zinchenko tucking into midfield to support Dinho, we had Mendy doing...whatever it is that that was.

The left flank in general was a mess. That combination of Mendy, Sterling and Grealish didn't have much in the way of chemistry or understanding.

The biggest problem though was Torres. Jesus can have bad games in front of goal but he's aggressive and constantly in motion, he always creates space and forces mistakes even if things aren't coming off for him. Torres is far too easy to defend against and needs to start imposing himself on games. He has the talent, but he needs to start making it happen.
