The game against Anfield was the only fixture over the past week where I have felt we have let ourselves down. We collapsed in exactly the same manner we did in the PL and ended up with a similar result.

That said, for all of the talk about how brilliant Liverpool were in the 1st half an Anfield, we were equally as good, if not better, in the first half at the Etihad. The difference is that they got all of the big breaks with the referee which resulted in goals. Ignoring any controversial decisions like the non-award of the Sterling penalties, there is no denying that Salah's goal was offside and that Sane's should have stood. Therefore, meaning that both us and Liverpool should have been going into half time with a 2-0 lead. However, due to nothing but sheer incompetence Liverpool benefitted from a 2 goal swing.

In regards to United we played them off the park and aside from a piss poor 10 minute spell where they scored 3, we battered them. Just look at the following facts about that game and then tell me with a straight face that they are nearly at our level:

  • They had a full weeks rest and we didn't
  • It was there strongest squad available and we rested key players
  • We hit the woodwork twice
  • We should have had two stone wall penalties and they should have been down to 10 men
  • They scored 3 goals from 4 shots on target.
  • We missed 5 clear sitters
Ulitimately the only result that matters in the 2-3 scoreline. But based on the whole 90 minute performance we are streets ahead of them and we'll show it again next season.

Great post. Bar the Klanfield game we were in control and were unfortunate with the poor referreeing.

Great post.

Good shout. Maybe Delph, Gundogan as a two with Sterling, KDB, Sane then Aguero. Silva, Gabriel and Bernardo as attacking subs. Just a thought as Pep does change the formation now and then.
Yep been thinking about it - @Roachy @chesterbells
we need to cover Eriksen as he's the playmaker really and Delph can be given a role in this .
Maybe even at good old fashioned left back . Delph needs to play from the start. He can give the whole back line a bit of confidence which is what we are lacking right now .

After the 3 losses the players will be up for this. I’d be happy with a draw though.

Can see Pep going with

Ederson

Walker
Kompany
Laporte
Delph

Gundogan
De Bruyne
D.Silva

Bernardo
Aguero
Sterling

  • Otamendi and Sane both need to be left out based on recent performances.
  • Bernardo has to start, was class last game.
  • The midfield picks itself, there aren’t any other options in such an important game.
  • Kompany will almost surely come back in. Probably with Laporte, maybe even Stones.
  • Delph back in at LB.

Bloody hell - look at the poll!
40% say we will win. 20% say we will draw & 40% say we will get beat (at the time of writing).
Our confidence is so low after the last 10 days that 40% of us (including me) expect us to lose
on Saturday. I find that amazing but very understandable.

Tottenham have a midweek game like United next week so they are managing TWO games in the 7 days before a unique 'home' semi final in the FA cup.

That other game is on Tuesday night away to Brighton.

This could play some part in their approach to Saturday evening. Doubt they are going to go full strength in both with a big lead over Chelsea.

I would assume Spuds would go full throttle against us to be certain, and then put out a second string at Brighton being so close to semi.

But we haven't played a derby either side of two intense CL matches have we? It was always going to be difficult with 3 intense games in 7 days.
Yes but 0 out of 3 is not a good result however you spin it. It's not even an average result. It's the worst possible result.

I am STILL fucked off that we threw the United game in chasing a lost cause CL 2nd leg. We'd have won on Saturday if we didn't have half an eye on Tuesday.

Fucking hell.

This would be tough regardless of our form. We are playing the best football ever but more recently lost a little bit of cutting edge and a couple of crappy style dirty red teams have got lucky.

Concerns for me are 4 centre backs who cost a fair bit with an injury prone captain being the pick of the bunch. However our system is always going to leave them exposed.
Jesus not sure he is quite at the level we need a lone front man to be and does not link up or have a strong enough presence.
Walker gone backwards and switching off.

Contrary to the two teams we have just lost to Spurs play nice football and will have some possession which I think we need to allow space for us to counter attack.

This will be an entertaining game and proud to be a Blue following such an exciting team as we are.

Thinking 2-2 between 2 good footballing sides.

Yeah I think they could use the squad by resting 2 or 3 players in each game

Either way I think that mentally they could have one eye on next week with players keen to not pick up cards and injuries

I like this post and wouldn't be surprised at 2-2, but we have battered them twice including pre-season so I think we'll get the win.

Bernardo needs to start. He's been quietly getting better and better, and he has history of scoring against Spurs at Wembley with Monaco! The problem is I think Sane needs a rest and Sterling can't play on the left in his absence.

I agree Sane needs a rest. He is out of form st the moment. I think sterling plays better on the right though. Not sure if Bernardo can play well on the left.

I've been thoroughly impressed with Bernado. He holds the ball as well as Nasri and he has a wicked shot. Also his heart is in it and he has loads of energy. Exactly what we need. Sterling is more unpredictable (in a good way) but away at Spurs I would go with Bernado if it's a choice between the two.
