Spurs fans...

I had a running argument on 606 with a Spurs fan a year ago going by the name of Galvin & Stacey. He used to argue that Huddlestone, "thud", was a far superior mid fielder than anything in city's midfield. Never heard from him again after that Crouchy own goal.

However, did come across him on a recent Spurs forum and his new favourite is Sandro. He is saying the same thing about Sandro ie best midfielder in the Prem, as he used to about "thud". But what really made me laugh is that he was then saying they should off load "thud" as he was a spent force and was not good enough for the prem.

Slight meltdown here also a small debate on them having a better midfield than us xD

"If your defending a 2-0 lead maybe. Silva plays in the hole so their midfielders are Yaya Toure, Gareth Barry, Milner, De Jong, AJ and whoever else. Id only take Yaya out of that lot"

Oh Deary me

wow. their midfield is on par with newcastles, miles, infact lightyears behind ours, utd's, chelsea's and arsenals.

Saying our midfield is the same level as Newcastle's is as deluded as thinking our midfield is as good as yours. I wouldn't say it's lightyears behind either, the quality is there imo but it's more of a tactics/organisation/fitness/moaning about getting paid 60k a year to play a game thing preventing them from playing at their true ability
I think you're midfield is a good midfield and could be an excellent midfield depending on how Modric reacts. The caveat of course is how they're deployed and implemented by the manager of whom I am unconvinced.

Vdv is injury prone and has been found out now ala elano
Bale is very average, one good game against inter got him that award that shocked EVERYONE in football
Sandro is a run of the mill player, a bit like cayebe at Newcastle
Huddlestone, don't even go there
Modric is class and wants to go

Anyone I missed?

Bale played well against more than Inter last season but his string of injuries after about halfway through the season seemed to derail him and he lacks the edge now - has he been found out or is he just not playing at his best? That cross against us that Crouch squandered was genuinely one of the best crosses I've seen in my life. My jaw hit the ground and if the beanpole had scored it, would have been a fantastic goal.

Bale is class, as is Modric, VDV hit or miss, the rest so so.
Name the games bale has been class in?

Inter....and........oh

Seen him many, many times for Saints, Spuds and Wales, can be marked out of a game if not given the correct service but rarely makes a mistake and often makes the outrageously difficult look easy. A flyer and possibly the best striker of a dead ball going at the minute.

Sorry you can't let your bias recognise the quality, not right for the way we're set up but quality nonetheless.

Who cares what spurs fans think? Last season and the season before i had a good personal rivalry with them because we were so competitive.

We are on a different level now. They are not a threat, we just demolished them at their home ground. I don't mind Spurs fans tbh and think that a lot of them a decent lads. Asked me last year and i might of said otherwise with how tight the table was.

But get used to it. Before everyone didn't mind about little city, they had something in common, they hated United as well. We were no threat and the better we become then the more fans will sledge us. I look forward to the day i hate Real Madrid and their fans and we have some rivalry going on.

Ah - Spurs business model. I love this one.

Spurs are owned by a company called ENIC which is ultimately controlled by a man called Joe Lewis. He started as a self-made man so no problem there. He ultimately got to 22nd in the Rich List, with a worth of nearly £3bn, by betting with George Soros against the pound on Black Wednesday in 1992, which sent the UK into recession while Lewis walked away with billions. As he lives in the Bahamas, he doesn't pay tax on that of course.

He's also a property developer. He buys lands and spends money on it to build housing and/or leisure facilities. In the first few years he has to invest a lot of money to make that happen so it runs at a big loss but after a few years, the hope is that it will be worth more than he paid for it or will bring in enough income to ensure a decent retun on his investment. That's what long-term investment is all about.

But oddly, Lewis doesn't do this with Spurs, insisting they are run on a stand-alone basis. They've always been run quite well it would appear and were always the biggest earners outside the top four. He did put in £15m to get them 4th spot in 2009/10 (when we caught them up financially) and the CL run will have added about £40m to their turnover. So not a bad return but there is no sustained investment to build a side that could stay in the top 4, particulalry having seen their main rivals weakened. They desperately need a proven goalscorer and centre-back but neither have been forthcoming. So it's clear that the owner doesn't want another run in the CL and Liverpool will probably overtake them. Their owners have taken a risk by spending money now to bring in future rewards.

The investment Sheikh Mansour has made in us, by contrast, will see our turnover probably treble over 4 years (from y/e 2009 to y/e 2012). If Spurs want to win things then they have an owner who could invest now to make a longer-term gain (if they had the right manager at the helm). If he isn't prepared to do that then he may as well get Moyes in who will be delighted to have a reasonable amount of money to spend each season and will keep then top 6.
