Spurs (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

All these posts about "Pep won't change, he only knows one way of playing", bollocks.
Anyone thinking that needs removing from a football forum. Unfortunately, he is applying the shit way.
Pre the Trebble and since he arrived, the Pep way was, possession based, passing securely and quickly and often, ant like movement, tiring opponents out, recovering to ball quickly in 2s and 3s etc. Then success, The Treble, the following season we lost our shape, our work ethic, our system. Yes we hung on to win a bauble, but the trajectory was evident and it's come home to roost in abundance. Injuries speeding the process up, along with aged and not good enough players. A perfect shit storm.
Perhaps it's managed and we're recalibrating and timing a new look team with the end of the charges and new stand? But the fall off from what was worked towards, is vast.

He will change formation tweak it but he won't change the control possession no risk football that worked since pep been our manager but was starting to see it last season that teams now can play pep football pressing doesn't work as well and they know now without Rodri older team they can get at us with the ball down the line we ain't stopped any of that since this run of defeats! One thing though we have been missing chance the game against sporting was ridiculous..

I said after the Southampton home game that we played garbage, and was very concerned how games against better teams would pan out.

Events have proved me right unfortunately.

Any way nobody has died and it is only a game when all is said and done.

I have seen far worse since I started supporting them in the mid 1950’s.

Keep the faith fellow Blues CTID.

Perhaps, but last season he didn't play the personnel that could do it.

He was trying something new - he's like David Bowie, hits on something great, then moves on, sometimes better, but this time not.

I fancy he was trying the replicate a bit of his Bayern approach but Doku, and now Savinho, are no Robben and Ribery. Intelligent players that could easily switch to midfield or even wingback without compromise. The whole structure and system was foregone and I imagine, some players players confidence affected. That Treble team was incredibly tight and bonded.

all thats been said we still have;

Dias
Akanji
Gvardiol
Rodri
Foden
Haaland
Savinho
Grealish
Doku
Nunes

All under 30, many under 25. The last two aside they all are currently at or can achieve a world class status.

we desperately need new midfielder for all types and a striker - a full back just like Cancelo would be ideal

According to some it seems our players take an eternity to be fit and when they get there they become exhausted with all the football they have played. I'm not having the not fit excuse anymore.

I'm going with we just ain't as good as we used to be and Pep can't or won't change the way we play to compensate.

I suppose we hope for seemless transitions and we have been pretty darn good at it but this time the new guys aren't as good as hoped so far(if ever) just as the superstars of the team are fading.

Shit happens so I would personally set the hopes this season lower than normal, if we win something, it will be a stress free Bruce bonus.

Let's not turn on the players though, no harm saying someone isn't good enough or past their bes,t its a foitball forum for discussion not a bloody cult, but disputing their efforts isn't on really.

The Biggest Bestest Blues will continue to annoy with their inarticulate William Wallace/Churchill tribute acts though I fear:-)

5 would have been truly epic but you can't really expect epic or it wouldn't be called epic:-)

When Pep verbally threw the league cup under the bus and will probably do the same with the FA cup it makes you wonder if it's all about Europe for him now and the shit world crap cup for the players.

We have had Rodri and Debruyne both out injured for some time that's a tough ask for any team but it doesn't explain how some of these players have fell away in form so much they are unrecognisable, the chemistry in the side seems a bit off to me.

Maybe they got bored of winning? Maybe the PL charges are getting to them? Maybe without both of our midfield stalwarts they fall apart?

We are playing shit but he still wont play McAtee but will see Lewis struggling but continues with him through thick and thin. Players getting injured easily is a concern too.

No easy fixes here and I can't see this squad of players working through it, the year extension isn't enough to rebuild a squad and if Pep does leave after a year and leaves us with these players would he be leaving us with the same problems the GPC left the rags with, an aging backbone of the squad and where Gill left the rags so has Txiki.

Our transfer business has been mediocre for quite some time now - and Pep has managed to counter that effectively. But finally the system broke.

Also i dont know if other posters feel it or not - I am not a big fan of Pep’s youth policy integration. Playing Gündogan or walker when a 20 year old academy lad could have done the same worst job is quite unreasonable. I feel sad of Mactee at this point.

Both our and Chelsea academy produce exceptional players by a dozen.
And i guess both clubs are horrible in keeping these prodigies within the first team.
Look at Barcelona for crying out loud, paid stupid money across Europe , got broke and suddenly La Masia graduates are tearing up the league.

Chelsea only discovered their handful of youth players when they were put on transfer ban and they were forced to trust the academy.

I am just a novice but is it that difficult to trust 2-3 academy players every season?
