Spurs (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Im sorry but that’s truly embarrassing! There’s a way to lose and that’s not it! Why the fuck is Pep playing Walker still and that first half expecting him to play high and wide and wonder why we get rinsed down that side is not exactly rocket science is it? Every one of them needs to lo at themselves and at least fight!?

I agree. On the way home and our midfield is the real issue in my opinion.
Peps teams need to play with high intensity and need legs around the pitch and in midfield in particular.

We don't have that at all in midfield as we have players getting on in age and players that aren't capable of going through the work that's needed.

Absolute wank. I think we had less shots on target than shots they scored from. Easier to tear apart than a paper bag, less creativity than I've seen in a Pep team ever and the positional sense of a gang of paralytic parrots.

Fair few need dropping as they're consistently making the wrong calls. Trouble is, is it's a lot of them and we can't replace them all. But what we can do is get Kev in there and get Jack in there and try and have a bit of control.

It's too much for Savinho, gundo is trying but he looks a yard off the pace, gvardiol I was surprised by his poor turnout but he was worse than Walker...

We seem unsure on when to press as we know that pressing and seeing the ball go long means we're in trouble. It creates huge gaps as one or two go and the rest don't.

Far too much leaving it to the next guy, somebody else can take accountability. If we lose the next two then we're on for a very difficult season and probably a trophyless one.

I don't see that fire, I don't see the right application, I don't see that creativity let alone the belief that we're going to win. Pep has a job now, remove the pressure, get some lights around the place and win the next game. It can switch back that easily but that longer it goes on now the harder it will get.
We went from a team confident that we could win 20 in a row to a team that had to face opposition which, with this in mind, blocked that. We went from a team that attacked and won to a team that attacked and got beaten on the counter. We stopped winning by attacking.

You can change the tactics and defend. But that would result in a draw. But attack is meaningless, currently. You're left with a sense of what can we do? This leads to what's happening.

If you're a struggling team you concentrate n defence and build from there. But we aren't a team that plays like that or has the patience to do so. So what do you do instead? Attack isn't working. Defence won't win games.

We're stuck. We need to work out a solution.

We have been in a situation like this before - Pellegrini’s final season. Aging squad that was underperforming. Poor transfer windows. Over reliance on 2 or 3 key players. There for the taking against anyone we played against.

I’ve no doubt we will turn things around but this is the beginning of the end for the old guard of our team. Walker, Stones, De Bruyne, Gundogan, Bernardo Silva all now need to move on. The real problem is that we have allowed quality players to leave without truly replacing them.

This season might end up being a transitional one, with us starting a rebuild in January and continuing in the summer.

We could be FIFTH by the end of next weekend!

For perspective, that Spurs team lost at home to Ipswich! So Spursy!

Same EXACT game plan that beats us every time we lose beat us again today:

Don’t finish our chances
Concede on first break
Lather, Rinse, Repeat.

Looked a shell of the team that won it all in 2023. Just don’t have it if we don’t have the top 14 available and in form, and even then everyone knows we can be overrun on the break.

It definitely will not happen, but we need AT LEAST a new RB, CB or two, at least 3 midfielders and a striker. Between January and July-August Txiki & Hugo need to start writing some cheques and rebuilding this team with some size, strength and speed.

Look around at the strong midfields and they have all three, or at least 2 of the 3 in every player.

Much work to be done inside the club to redefine who City are going to be going forward.

Lastly, I think Pep has to look at himself.

He changed the League when he came to City. People said he couldn’t play his way in the PL and yet with the exception of Liverpool, his ideas have not only been absorbed by other PL and Bundesliga managers, but improved upon by inserting SSS into them.

However, while teaching other teams how to play for 9 years, they have not only learned the lesson, but understand the weaknesses and, more importantly, how to exploit the system.

Pep has tweaked things, and we have lauded those tweaks, but they have merely spackled over the cracks of a rapidly aging team.

Today, every crack was laid bare and the weaknesses of certain players were highlighted by Spurs players who were hungrier, more aggressive, first to every ball, and who know where the goal is.

Today, nobody covered themselves in glory, but more importantly the players whose glory days are behind them was on full display.

As I’ve said repeatedly, we need more size, strength and speed in our team, but when Pep is winning everything people come back over the top with “In Pep We Trust.”

Yep, his historical record is ridiculous, but anyone still ignoring the obvious, both with Pep and the squad, is whistling past the graveyard. History is in the rearview mirror, but that is where most Spurs players saw their marker today.

Not a good day at the office and if that spectacle didn’t light a fire under ownership and executive management, nothing will.

A few players are STEALING A LIVING at City at the moment, and they know who they are.

Bigger, stronger, faster…there endeth the lesson. Go in peace.

Pep played a blinder getting that contract signed before today lol.
Joking aside this is now becoming concerning. The team look bereft of ideas, cohesion, confidence and worse of all leadership. Walker is finished but Lewis isn't good enough to replace him. Gvardiol has gone backwards and has never been great defensively.Gundogan is also finished, Kev is no younger and now becoming injury prone. Stones is another, just never fit. Savinho, Nunes and Doku aren't at the level we require.

The team peaked magnificently in the treble season but it was then we should have strengthened. It's been a fantastic few years but we're now back amongst the pack after being head and shoulders above the rest. It's obvious a major rebuild is now needed let's hope we get it right.

There is acres of space in our midfield, and we don't have the personnel to cover the ground. Nunes has to start over Gundogan
