Spurs (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Jesus Christ, I thought I’d take a break from sulking about our run of results and watch Ted Lasso. (NB spoiler alert!) But even AFC Richmond beat City 0-2 at the Etihad. It’s a poor run lads and lasses when we can’t even beat a fictitious team led by a joke American coach!

Anyway CTID of course. The January transfer window really important and the summer one is absolutely huge as we go again and rebuild under Pep. And perhaps we can salvage something out of this season still. Can’t grumble after this last triumphant decade. But we can hope.
Our last few transfer windows have been poor, how much is this due to the 115 cloud hanging over us and very good players not willing to take a chance. If it is and no result out until after January, then January will not bring us any improvement

3 rd goal. Foden x2, Gundo, Walkers x 2 and Akanji all either shit out of tackles or were beaten to the tackle
Is this the goal where Akanji tried to tackle and ended up tackling Walker? Looked so amateurish

5 straight losses, including 2 absolutely embarrassing beatings similar to the ones we have been laughing at the rags deliver on a monthly basis for years now. I expect to see some consequences from that in both tactics and player selections going forward.
Ederson/Gvardiol/Akanji/Lewis/Bernardo/Savinho/Foden/Haaland have all started in 2 humiliating results in just 3 games. Some other names could/should be mentioned as well, but I expect at least a few of these names to be benched a while going forward, otherwise we are basically just telling the players they can perform at an unacceptable level repeatedly and still getting rewarded with starts as if nothing out of the ordinary has happened. This season is unfortunately most likely gone anyway so now it's time to make some statements and even play youth players ahead of them if thats whats needed to get the message through.

Results like these must have consequences or sooner or later results like these become acceptable within the group of players.
Spot on...

There was a point in the game very early on at 0-0 when Spurs had the ball on there left (our right)...there was a huge switch out towards where Gvardiol was supposed to be to Kulachvski....somehow Kulacheski had managed to stray offside (no idea how)....but at that point they had 3 or 4 players running past our midfield streaming forward....at that point it was only a matter of time and that none of the problems had been solved.

The goals we are conceeding are carbon copies of situations every week....
Yes I noted that at the time. Gvardiol persistently caught upfield. However, he is asked to play as an attacking left midfielder because of injuries to Grealish and Doku.

He sees them daily in training and knows they’re not good enough.
Then get them off the squad ASAP because if they are in reality worse than Walker and Gundo then what's the point of them being here. We're even more fucked than what we're seeing if that's the case...

Good point. But would pep have stayed off we were looking like failing the 115. Maybe I read too much into his announcement. Pep at Halifax away would be something out of Ted Lasso!

Watching the game yesterday, noticing how often our wingers stopped their runs and turned back inside.
Rapidly approaching octogenarian status, I couldn't help but recall the days of the likes of Paddy Fagan, David Wagstaffe and Buzzer. Memories of watching them tear down the wings and deliver a deliver a KdB type pass.

Rightly or wrongly it seems to me that the comments on this thread and related ones fall into two camps. Either we have a short term problem with various fixes being suggested or we have a club at the end of its cycle. If the first can be accomplished, then well and good. It'll be done. If the second is the issue then as far as I'm concerned it's fine. Given what we have been privileged to see from this team since we first won the PL if we're going to have to have a couple of seasons "off" then I'm not overly concerned. I trust the overall management of this club to handle any rebuild effectively.

I believe the Premier League legal battles are making the things worse, OK we have had some bad luck with injuries to key players, but the up and coming players must be wondering if they will be playing in the Championship or worse next season. We have no friends outside the club, so the fans need to step up and make the players proud to play for us

Josko also had a couple. Haaland one of just a few with any credit whatsoever yesterday. Thwarted by a good keeper on a few occasions.
The original.post wasn't a knock at haaland more the irony of someone who has had a poor day showing frustration at another player having a poor day.

Anyhoo a scuffed shot that's saved by a simple extension of a leg
A save by a ball hit pretty much right at you following a poor touch and
The ball hitting the top of the bar is not good goalkeeping just bad finishing.

It happens.

Yes and we have not a one who can do that. Disgraceful, need to recruit from the championship or somewhere similar where players are used to tackling, harassing, pressing and running. Feck I'm describing the current PL leaders here....!!

I'm not sure we don't have anyone that can do that.

I was just referring to Doku. He's not going to be the difference make and would be unfair on him for anyone to think so.

I think the save with his leg from the shot following Savio’s cross was a great save. And then the one late on after great play by KDB was a great save too.
I was a striker so I’ll always say that ;-)

I know. And Porro too.
The list of current young players playing well, in the prem, in the first team --- we have to take a look at that. Ffs we are not spending because of FP and the rightful scrutiny - so what do we do...ship out any talent we have developed in the last ten years - makes no sense at all. I'd rather lose 4 :0 with a load of hungry lads just up from the academy then players well past it. I also think pep's comments - ill sign for 2 years then next breathe 'get rid of me if we lose' I mean that's questionable talk isn't it - get rid of me but with a huge 'additional' fat wallet of cash to play golf in the states with - sort of needs some scrutiny at least. but...that's not allowed to be even analysed!

TBF Haaland was good yesterday - the effort was rare and there to see,, shot on the turn hitting the bar = is unlucky NOT bad finitising - an inch lower everyone would be screaming what a goal. When you have played you know that these are tiny margins. What i don't get is the lack of squad planning - panic getting Gundo back etc - losing half of the young lads we've spent 10 years developing! I also think Haaland was kind of forced on Pep - don't get me wrong Haaland 1 v1 running on goal Salah like - not much between them (2 of best in the world) BUT...we don't play with that quick through ball so pretty pointless... I think it was the £50m clause - potential to claw around £80m profit to help FP coffers - led to Pep having to shoe horn him on...that's not a team really - and I think Pep knows it. I think he's done his extra 2 years with a constant sack me plea! waiting for a huge payment end of season when we finish 7 th or 8 th...sad but it could definitely happen

I did wonder if one of the reasons he did renew was to show that he believed in is and so should they. But maybe that is too fanciful.
