Spurs (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Come on now everyone should know Spurs are one of our bogey teams. Expected nothing from today’s match but having said that we were really poor. Sad to say it but Pep seems to have lost his mojo.

The last sentence is true but also a worry cinsidering what happened last time he was run into the ground. Dias and Lewis were woeful and Haaland ineffective. Biggest thing for me today was our genuine lack of physicality. We gave away cheap goals and got bullied for the rest of the match.
I think your last two sentences capture the game - Frank instructed them to be physical, we couldn’t deal with it. Plus for me, taking Cherki off for Bernardo at that time killed the tempo we were starting to build.

A disappointing result and performance, in part.
I didn't feel like Spurs had to do too much to hold on to the result.
They were tactically sound and their players put in a hell of a shift.
Still, we had enough chances to draw as a minimum.
We now have a very young team and it will grow and develop but we will have to be patient.
Young players will make a mistake or two.

Shithouses I'd say.
Piss poor that.

I think I mentioned earlier that was a strange one. Anyway I suppose its time to turn our attention to next week.

As I said there's always overreaction on here. However, whilst we have no divine right to win, succumbing in that manner to an average spurs side in the 1st home game is pants.
Yes it is annoying as hell. I don t think spurs are very good team same as United. Some how Pep can t pick the right team to handle this kick and rush game.

If Rico had been sprinting from the start, he’d have been there. If he had concentrated on just getting a toe on it, instead of clearing it, he’d have been fine, even though he didn’t sprint back from the outset!

And, I don’t even want to blame him for the goal!

It really simple…if you have a clear pass, where the player won’t immediately be under pressure, no problem. The ball should have been to Cherki, but Trafford had zoomed in on the short pass that wasn’t on and he didn’t have the composure to look up, or simply widen his view. Poor pass in a suicide location…and it killed us.

The 2 Pep’s have work to do. Will they do it?

Hugo also has work to do, and he really, really needs to do it!
Not watched any of it back to see what you're saying about Lewis but it comes as no surprise to me. I've commented on that very thing numerous times in the last few seasons. If he showed as much desire to get back into position defensively as he does in sprinting to get himself upfront as quickly as possible, he'd be a substantially better player. Its a problem and one that is inexcusable.

With Trafford, as with 99% of keepers i just dont think it's natural for him so he's following instructions on runned training patterns and not going off instinct in real time. This is where Ederson is unique, he sees the game before him whereas trafford is just trying to replicate training drills and make the game play like it should.

Our team is heading towards being ( no disrespect to them ) like a Fulham,Bournemouth or Crystal Palace, with a couple of very good players and a sprinkling of ok,difference is these teams have pace and energy all over the pitch especially at the back we don’t ..

Spurs were good after the goals which we gifted to them. No point even mentioning the second and I would file that one under bizzare. It was the first goal that really pisses me off.Same old story again and again. There is no way you can win anything defending that way. Early days but that loss puts us under pressure way before it should be due.
Yeah we have seen that so many times. It is too simple that first goal.

Until Pochettino turned up and did a 1-4. Pellegrini's team wasn't good against high pressing sides.
Doesn’t matter Pelligrini still beat them 4 times on the trot home and away regardless of who was in charge, I reckon Pep would struggle to beat them with Sherwood in charge, I’m talking about doing your homework and that’s where Frank beat Pep today.

We were second best all over the field. Spuds pressed like we used too and we had no answer.
Too much inexperience and lack of time playing together was exposed. A reality check for our new players.

We are used to seeing players have slow starts but the difference between Nico and the returning Rodri was night and day. I do hope Nico doesnt turn out to be Kalvin Phillips Mk 2.

Might have been mentioned already…

Did anyone else notice Kolo Toure was standing in the technical area shouting, clapping, waving his hands about pretty much the whole game! Way more than Pep anyway.
Thought it was interesting as I don’t recall one of Pep’s coaches ever doing that before!?

But, those were away games. We used to hammer Spurs at Etihad all those 10 years, losing at home is a recent thing.
It still early days we have not gelled yet that is another factor. Hopefully this good kick up the ass to get aggressive

Today wasn’t great and you can’t sugar coat a performance like that. The weaknesses in the squad have been highlighted for weeks. We desperately need a right back who can overlap, we need a left sided attacker and the goalkeeper situation was a disaster today. No point attacking Trafford but he looked utterly out of his depth today and managed to unsettle the whole defence. Many of the deficiencies today were pretty similar to last season - which is worry - but we have to trust in Pep to get this right. As an aside we looked pretty under cooked today - Spurs looked 30 per cent fitter than we did. Keep the faith.
Regardless of the result and his cock up regarding the 2-0 spuds could and should have made it 3-0 at the death but for a fantastic double save by Trafford A long season ahead yet , let’s get behind him and the team Cmon City (ffs)

It’s a cliche but you have to build from the back. Rookie keeper who looks as though he’s just been thrown in and seems uncertain what he should be doing. The back four was awful, and midfield looked lightweight, strikers had a bad day but they can only do so much. Selling McAtee yet keeping Silva seems poor business. On the plus side, we won’t have to play Spurs again for a while, they basically had the same game plan as Wolves but with far better players.
Very poor

Pressing us without Ederson is very different to pressing us with him. I noticed Haaland wanting Trafford to hit him with one of those long kicks like ederson used to but no other keeper is going to be able to play like that.
Trafford seems to want to take a touch even for a short pass inviting trouble, whilst Ederson can even accurately hit a long ball first touch.
