Spurs (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

We're nowhere near the team we once were, although it doesn't help when our supposed world class striker misses two simple (for a man of his quality) headers and our keeper gifts a goal
I’ll give you the gifted goal, but NEITHER of Haaland’s headers were even close to “simple” for anyone at any time in any era! First was too high and second was behind him!

Sobering thought this.

Shame, as I was getting used to being the dominant team in England.

Oh well, here's to the odd trophy every 3 or 4 years, because this lot simply have not got the killer instinct to turn defeats into victories, control each game from the off and dominate from season start to finish.

They even look miserable!
We've seen since the introduction of the premier league that it goes round in cycles.

United had periods of dominance. Then arsenal came along and made a fist of it, along with the Chelsea money.

Then we have dominated the last 10 years.

We have absolutely taken our eye off the ball regarding transfers. Apart from the odd worldie like Haaland and Rodri, we are too focused on winning the net spend trophy.

We've gone backwards at an alarming rate.

Trafford did nothing wrong? Excuse me but did you see him get away with a totally deserving red card, a goal he gave away, and the plenty of times he shat himself when passing out the back?
Yep. He made other big mistakes he got bailed out for as well. He's simply not ready for this job.

He also appears to make the defenders nervous as fuck
Come on Chaddblue they've looked nervous as fuck for 12 months - basically since we lost Rodders.
Trafford was a weird one in all honesty. Last week I was less concerned about his footwork as it looked ok against Wolves - but I said when we were interested that I'd watched him a few times at Notlob and wasn't convinced with his playing out. Needs time

I expect to see this a lot as we finish 4th. The Rebuild™

And I'm fine with that..

The team needs time to gel.. we're not going on an 18 game winning streak anytime soon with players not even comfortable with each other yet.

Remember Pep didn't produce results in 16-17. We had to wait till 17-18.

And I'm not gonna write off Trafford after... two games LOL!

What I am worried about is how Spurs outworked us.. that's more worrying to me. We used to outwork everyone but today we just strolled about!

We had 16-17 last year. So this year is 16-17 again? I think trafford is fine. Hes the least of my worries.

Trying to be pragmatic, first 15 mins were good, controlled, looked a threat. Tactically, spuds pressed well and were organised, motivated by their collapse against PSG, they worked their socks off. We are not yet a cohesive unit, new players learning about the PL, it's pace, learning about teammates in pressure situations, limited games over the summer.
I saw enough to know and we should all know, when it clicks and last season aside, it always does, we become that unit. Without Rodri we handled their pace and transitions well, the key improvement we needed to see, and for a good team, they were a limited threat. Lots of positives only idiots can't see the truth......

A reasonable and temperate post. This was one of the worst home performances in the Pep era.Worse in many respects than last seasons 0-4 humiliation. There is a changing of the gaurd I fear and we will have to get used to second best. Lets hope we regroup and come back in a year or two but in all honesty a lot of players looked way out of their depth today. They just dont seem to have the required mentality.Looks like another barren season sadly.
Agreed, this was a shock for all of us today. Reality that our trophy era is likely over for a while. Well put in some good performances ala Wolves but it won’t be consistent enough to be successful.

The way we threw everything at them in the second half, forcing save after save while striving to get back into the game was very impressive. Or did I just make that up?
This is fucking Spurs, bottom six almost all last season, and generally shite. More to the point they are quite shite when they come to the Etihad but we rarely give them the hammering they deserve.
"Ooh they're a hoodoo team". Nice fucking excuse lads, but they aren't very good.
They wanted it more and kept it simple. We over complicate everything, and while that may be required against Real Madrid or Bayern, it's not required against Spurs, Southampton, the fucking rags, or any other shite teams we dropped points against last season.
