Spurs (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Chilled out a bit now. Second game with a lot of new players. Seemed to go to shit when Ait Nouri went off.

We still created chances though, my concern is that we didn’t take them, Haaland is still missing big chances that could have changed the game and we missed someone to control the game.

Rodri back should fix that but we’ve got a long way to go.

Excited to see how we transform!

Yeah i don't like that shit myself

Ederson was in the tunnel laughing hugging and shaking the Spurs players' hands before the kick off, then Foden was warming up laughing and joking with the Spurs subs,

You get the Feeling that far too many players at City are on easy street and are happy not starting and some players are even coasting games (Haaland)
I agree. Imagine Brian Clough being our boss seeing happy smiley faces when we're losing and getting beat. He'd have them running bollock naked through stinging nettles early tomorrow morning in Daisy Nook.

I read he once had his Forest players doing that. Proper no shit disciplinarian was Cloughie.

Traffords kicking is awful. Could be any keeper just hoofing it up.
Possibly. Donnarumma is better at going long. But he also has no sense of playing with his feet.

The wider issue is that - teams simply know how to play us now. They watch film. They look at how teams press high on us. That we have no physicality or speed in our midfield. And when teams run at us with the ball at speed - we shit our pants. We rarely counter attack. So what do teams do? They smash and grab and try to get a goal. And then they just give us all the possession we want. Possession used to be a beautiful thing. Now, for us at least, it looks boring. Because we know its likely not going to lead to much. The game against Brighton will tell us what we need to know in terms of what we are going to face this season.

Why didn't Ruben hoof it upfield?

It's his mistake.. should be a leader there and take responsibility because the team were under the cosh and already 0-1 down. Then he does this..

All that experience and fucking mental he'd put Trafford in a position like that.
Yep, would have been better if Ruben had of just taken responsibity and booted it upfield, although when he passed to Trafford there was no Spurs player near him .... but I've noticed already that Trafford has a nasty habit of dallying on the ball a bit too long, or taking one touch too many.

He's just got to use his head a bit more or he's not gonna get many first team chances.

Pep kicked out Joe Hart for less

This angle is damning. How he’s passing to Nico’s right foot there is baffling me. Sarr is right there ready to pounce!

Cherki was the pass.

He should be taking the ball on the move, not stopping it and standing flat footed, which led to a weak and misdirected pass. One that he should not have even attempted.
The ball to play was over the top to Erling, who was one on one. Of course, that was impossible from the position he left himself in.

It's strange how we judge players. Some people criticise Trafford for his poor pass leading to the goal yet Haaland who is paid £525k a week has a very poor heading technique and missed an opportunity today but escapes criticism

It's not just us, but was is the point of the square pass across the 6yd box from a goal kick? All it does is gives more time for the forwards to press.

It's not a problem when we had Ederson, but with any other keeper, you're generally giving it to the person least talented on the ball. Rags used to do it to Onana all the time and you end up with either a daft pass out like this or a panicked hoof up field which may as well have been done straight from the kick off.

I'm all for keeping possession and playing out from the back when you can, but there has to be some pragmatism

Pep needs to be more ruthless about errors. Pep in 2019 would have gone mad at some of the misplaced passes or players not busting gut to run back to defend.
I remember gifs, short vids he was screaming to Sane and Sterling for a bad cross or a cross with a second too slow/too late.

that Pep would be under medical watch each game these days seeing what easy passes we fuck up regularly in midfield, upfront, choosing harder, riskier pass lines rather than the obvious ones...

Put myself through watching the highlights, spurs targeted Ruben and Rico. Ruben targeted for his lack of ability playing out compared to Stones. Rico because he's to weak Djed Spence constantly targeted Rico. Their press happens as soon as Ruben or Rico have the ball.

Only two games in and football is already pissing me off. Shit already from us, same fucking issues not sorted, and fucking arsenal winning 5-0 showing us how it’s done. Absolutely fucking wank.

Even though we spent about £300m we’re no fucking better. No right back, worse keeper and Lewis, Doku, Bernardo and Dias nowhere near good enough.

Whenever we don’t just bite the bullet and spend what it takes (Rice, Wirtz), it bites us on the arse.

There was a poster earlier on in this thread urging us to 'not panic' (apologies to the person concerned).

Well, imo, this is exactly the time to panic.

This squad is not good enough or deep enough to make the top 4, never mind compete for the title or Champs League. It is physically weak and slow as fuck. It is mentally weak and complacent.

Maybe Pep will stabilise the situation enough to get us into the top 4, but is that good enough for a club this size and pedigree? I think not. I didn't see anything in the tactics today that looked any different from last season - we played a shit team last week who made us look good, but got exposed completely by a pretty average Spurs team - and that is on Pep! God help us against Arse and Liverpool.

Viana to me seems to be buying for the Portugese League with small technical players as opposed to the brutes like Yaya, Kevin etc. that we used to buy and definitely need.

Also, why are we not acting like a big team. Go get the big players with the big mentalities. But instead, we get fancy dans and fairies who look great in inferior leagues rather than the top players like Wirtz, Barcola etc who would scare the beejesus out of the opposition. The opposition just don't fear us anymore. Go and stick £80m down for Liveramento, or £100m for the PSG winger, etc. What's stopping us apart from not wanting to look crass. Bollocks to that I say.

And as a big club, you say thanks but no thanks to players who are past their best or just not good enough, instead of holding on to them. No other big club would do that cf: PSG with Donna Summers. Also, what other big club has not one proper right back in the squad?

Can you tell I'm pissed off? Some will say I'm spoiled - so what - I support a big club, I've been through the shit and now I want gravy with my chips every time - shoot me.

Rant over.

PS: I hope Pep and the team prove me wrong - I love humble pie.
Bang on the money

Their first goal was so soft but a carbon copy of so many before it. So easy to play against.

Pep insisting on a high line with a defence which includes Ake, Lewis, Stones and Dias is absolutely criminal. Ake is the fastest out of them all but he’s lost a yard (or few) in the past couple of years.

One long ball (which Marmoush didn’t bother closing down because he was too busy marking Bentancur who was already marked!?) and a flick on into 70 yards of space behind the defence. Ridiculous and suicidal tactics.

They were with prime Walker and pace in the side, never mind which what we’re using now. How Khusanov doesn’t get the nod - and Nunes - purely for their pace is beyond me.
Them two have to play against the big boys, but with sènior stubborn at the helm, who knows
