Spurs (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

If Marmoush scores 1 on 1, if Haaland scores when their keep made a mistake. We were not good, and I wasn't keen on the line up before the game - but for a couple of mistakes and a couple of missed opportunities the result could look a lot different.

We were not as bad as people claim yesterday and we were not as good as people claim when we beat Wolves. Its fine margins, yesterday they went against us.
Problem is that too many times our forwards failed to take their chances last season, which would have seen us out of sight, and when that happens the opponent senses they will get their own chances because our inherent weaknesses remain the same.
We have added some nice parts to the squad but some underlying problems with the starting team have not been addressed.

£60m on two young defenders in Jan... one of which is now out on loan and the other has been outcast since March.

A further £30m on a now back up keeper this summer and £90m has been frittered away whilst we still have no able right back at the club.

We all knew how key Walkers recovery pace was to allow us to play a high line, so why the fuck don't those in charge know it too?
The right back situation is baffling, Walker was struggling early doors last season, age had finally caught up with a truly top rate player. Yet a year later we have spent a huge amount of money but still don’t have a recognised right back. That’s shit management.

Trafford just needed to drill it towards Marmoush
His actual goalkeeping was good though. Donnarumma doesn't improve matters. If City see Trafford as a no.2, and Ederson is defo off, go and get Costa
Having watched PSG quite a bit last season, I don’t recall Donnarumma holding them back in any way shape or form, in fact he was brilliant. I think this good with his feet stuff is overplayed. Common sense is all that’s really important.

Just rewatched the lolights on MOTD!

I'll never understand and tbh, it is completely unacceptable to concede a goal from goal kick without the ball leaving the 18 yd area!

That effectively ended the game, in the first half!
You watched MOTD? You’re braver than me mate :-). I watched the TNT highlights on YouTube when I got home with the volume turned down.

Probably good for the management to see the limitations of starting three relative novices to the league in midfield and the continued lack of pace when chasing back. What action it prompts, if any, remains to be seen.
Probably none.

In hindsight, 4 home debutants in a tough home game was fucking mad.

Especially when you see the strength of the bench we had.

Yesterday brought home to me our “imperial phase” is over. Remains to be seen if it’s temporary.

We are now in rebuild mode. This will lead to inconsistent performances and results.

Patience may be needed (and defenders told not to let the ball bounce).

Why are we all talking about rebuilds and inconsistent results? Have our rivals not had overhauls of their squads? Liverpool are set to sign 5-6 players for their first team. Arsenal got 5 new starters as well. Spurs have signed players and got a new manager.

Have we really become United where we try to defend the inadequacy of our setup to a transition period? We can be patient like United have been with their 10 year transition period.

The club is more interested in net spend and giving the impression we don’t spend lots of money ( which compared to other teams is correct) we also have partly become complacent and comfortable,we have done it all treble, domestic treble and 4 in a row and it’s as if we are going through the motions, although I’ll counter that with kompany,Silva,Aguero,Toure,Fernandinho,De Bruyne, the fall off in quality is startling..( sorry if I missed off other players)

People should look at Reis like Saliba.

Arsenal spent £30m on him in 2019 and he was loaned out for 3 years while they had average CBs and then when he was ready, he came back and has been one of the best CB's in the PL since. It's not a waste of money, it's an investment for the future, and if the club had a fixed budget, they wouldn't have put the money in a long term project.

If there was a RB on the market who looked like a 23 year old Walker (or even a 28 year old Walker), the club would have gone out and bought him.

There isn't. No one can name a RB with Walker's profile because there isn't one. Khusanov has the pace and physicality to be that player at CB, but he's 21 and only been here 10 games. Again, there's no outstandingly fast, physically dominant CBs on the market either.

Instead of people being annoyed we haven't replaced him immediately, this should really make people appreciate what we had in Walker.

What’s interesting about the great players you listed, is none were signed by Pep.

And yet Liverpool won the league with a right back who couldn't defend.

Sorry mate, you are saying there isn’t a decent right back on the market we could have signed in the last year?

What surprised me was how much fitter, faster and stronger Spurs were than our 11, it was a real eye opener as I thought we looked fit and strong last week against Wolves! Different gravy.
Maybe they have had a proper pre season, what have we had? Preston and Palermo? Anyway, their goals were down to our errors and we had enough chances to be level if not in front. Haaland has a head like a 50p piece, again we’re in the realms of he may score more than 40 goals a season but if he took half the chances he gets given he would score over 60. Marmoush should have put us in front with scoring one of the three chances he had before they scored. It might have been a different game altogether then.

Take a look at these highlights – the first three shots, before there was even any real threat to our goal from their side, all came from Marmoush. Out of those three efforts, we easily could’ve scored twice... it’s honestly heartbreaking.

In games like this, it really does come down to fine margins. If we’d just put one of those chances away, it’s a completely different story.

Besides what was a collectively disastrous performance yesterday, and Lewis having a nightmare, I actually think the biggest culprit in the loss was Marmoush — as strange as that might sound. He had three clear chances where he simply had to deliver something

Right after him, it has to be Haaland – that header miss was absolutely dreadful.

The easy pass that Haaland messed up when him and Bobb won the ball back off their defence was worse imo.
