Spurs (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Why are we all talking about rebuilds and inconsistent results? Have our rivals not had overhauls of their squads? Liverpool are set to sign 5-6 players for their first team. Arsenal got 5 new starters as well. Spurs have signed players and got a new manager.

Have we really become United where we try to defend the inadequacy of our setup to a transition period? We can be patient like United have been with their 10 year transition period.
The excuses will continue as long as those type of performances do. That showing yesterday was so much like some of last seasons, when the excuse was "burnout" from the prior seasons efforts. Granted, injuries last season were bad. Really hope that spurs games was an anomaly.

And yet Liverpool won the league with a right back who couldn't defend.

And we got 100 points with Delph at LB, a treble with no LBs at all.

So you don't need world class players at every position. We have a great all round LB in Ait-Nouri and a great defensive option in Gvardiol. That side of the defence is stronger than it's ever been, and it's simply the RB slot that's going to be a bit weaker.

We can win everything without 2 world class fullbacks and no fanbase should know that better than ours.

Their first goal was so soft but a carbon copy of so many before it. So easy to play against.

Pep insisting on a high line with a defence which includes Ake, Lewis, Stones and Dias is absolutely criminal. Ake is the fastest out of them all but he’s lost a yard (or few) in the past couple of years.

One long ball (which Marmoush didn’t bother closing down because he was too busy marking Bentancur who was already marked!?) and a flick on into 70 yards of space behind the defence. Ridiculous and suicidal tactics.

They were with prime Walker and pace in the side, never mind which what we’re using now. How Khusanov doesn’t get the nod - and Nunes - purely for their pace is beyond me.
You are right. Both Nunes and Khusanov would have cut out the cross for their first goal. Lewis does not have their speed.

Some posters will still be spouting the "rebuild" in 3 years time, where IMO we will still be potless.

A huge change is required throughout the club for me.

New Manager? Maybe

Out playing style is stagnant as fuck. Yes it will look pretty against sides like Wolves, but against the top sides we wil get punished.

Our recruitment in general has been abysmal. We've spent a fortune and we are nowhere near what we once was. We ridicule the rags for fluttering money away and we aren't much better. We've picked up the odd stellar players for decent money like Haaland but the rest are meh.

I've never seen our team get bullied so often in games. Where's the leadership? Who's barking out orders and grabbing the game by the scruff of the neck?

Our dead balls are again woefully inept. Who's drilling the players in training. Do we even bother practicing them?

For me, the Wolves game was a false dawn. The reality is we will see a lot more games like yesterday than the one at molineux.

I am convinced we struggle with the ball now.

It’s uncomfortable and full of mistakes from back to front. Surely they can’t be this bad in training? It’s the biggest elephant in the room and one which won’t be fixed.

Set up to fail.

It looks and feels uneasy.

I assume everyone is losing their shit. The ones who can't handle it are throwing their toys out.

It's early, we don't know what or how good we will be yet after two games. Let the team settle into the season before panning them.

No good performances yesterday I thought. Players nervous and not knowing where each other were. It will come, the players are good enough.

Idk , why we didnt try this many more times
Its actually worked

(1st Marmoush chance)

If we had kept doing that it would have forced them deeper. Hence giving us more time to play out from the back. Common sense to everyone but Pep.

There seems to be a disconnect between viana and pep imo. No way can we invest what we have and not see improvements but we seem to have stood completely still.

I think it’s more a case of fans who pay hard earned cash turning up and watching us make the same mistakes we were making a year ago. If we were getting beaten by good teams then I can accept that, but what’s unacceptable is the same fuck ups game after game after game.

Was quite clear there was a lack of sharpness for us, passing not crisp and there does seem to be some leftover from last year in panicking when pressed - something we never did before. It's gonna take time, Reijnders still figuring out what's asked of him, Cherki not up to speed yet with the lack of space he will get in the middle, Marmoush severely undercooked with little game time. It's easy to blame Trafford as well but there's a difference when you are young and have Rodri in front pointing what to do. I thought Rico was playing OK, but his defensive instincts will never be there - in games where we have a lot of the ball and he can use his positional sense he will always look class. If we are selling Gundo, let Rico be a midfielder and get a real RB in before the window closes.

Just rewatched the lolights on MOTD!

I'll never understand and tbh, it is completely unacceptable to concede a goal from goal kick without the ball leaving the 18 yd area!

That effectively ended the game, in the first half!
I agree ....... and I just knew that, once that second goal had been conceded, we weren't gonna back into it ..... we just weren't getting on top of them in the way that City sides of the past would have done ... at no stage of that second half did i spot any sign of a consolation goal, never mind a comeback!

Stop overreacting.

The only worrying thing yesterday was the inability to create any decent chances as a team in the second half, we could have played till midnight and not scored.

Talk of the Goalkeeper, Rico and Pep is just looking for a fall guy.

We’ve lost to Spurs loads of times in successful years, it’s the second game of the season and you’re all in meltdown. Rag behaviour.

Give the new lads time to bed in and some of the new ideas. I thought first 30 mins or so, our pressing was much better and we were creating different chances to in previous seasons, same as in the Wolves game.

It’ll take time.

What makes it worse is that there's no incentive for them to sign Sav anymore, knowing Levy he would probably say they are good enough to ride the season out. If we had smashed them properly yesterday that would have added to their desperation to bounce back from the Eze humiliation

Spurs away and at home, Treble season, Rodri and Ederson. Discuss.

Mad how it’s always Spurs we do this against.

I posted yesterday that it doesn’t matter what situation both teams are in, the matches against them always go the same way. Probably conceded the same goal to Spurs under 5 different managers.
