Spurs (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Stop overreacting.

The only worrying thing yesterday was the inability to create any decent chances as a team in the second half, we could have played till midnight and not scored.

Talk of the Goalkeeper, Rico and Pep is just looking for a fall guy.

We’ve lost to Spurs loads of times in successful years, it’s the second game of the season and you’re all in meltdown. Rag behaviour.

Give the new lads time to bed in and some of the new ideas. I thought first 30 mins or so, our pressing was much better and we were creating different chances to in previous seasons, same as in the Wolves game.

It’ll take time.

"The only worrying thing" was that we can't create chances as a team. Quite a big concern that.

I fully agree with you, to further the argument against the system, the only period last season that we looked a decent team was when Nico O' Reilly played at LB and Nunes at RB, that team did not have wingers and the 2 full backs were the attacking outlets on the wings, we has a loaded midfield and it was not so easy get through us.
But when it came to the Cup Final Nunes was dropped in favor of Akanji, and both Doku and Savinho were chosen, Nico was probably asked to play the inverted full back role, but he was lost and his attacking threat was also lost.
A couple of friends I have here have always claimed that Pep has a humungous ego and everything has to be about him, I always argued against them until that day, when I saw that line up I knew we were going to lose that match, it was crackers the changes he made.
And the CL final against Chelsea

We didn’t create a lot but probably had as many as them. No denying they were the better team but if we were clinical for once we could have easily got something from that game

I don't normally criticise players or performance. But I think we have completely altered our style of play to suit a goalkeeper who is useless with his feet. Since Pep 1st appeared at City, we have been playing out from the back. Joe Hart was sold because he couldn't use his feet. This tactic has changed world football. So why do we now have a keeper who is completely inept with his feet. Surely the club knew this before we bought him.
I really don't like having a go at individuals, but with Trafford in goal we lose our control, this then makes it easier for opposition to pressure our defence into mistakes. As proven yesterday and last week against Wolves last week.

That's what I thought too, but when I watched it again Erling's pass is spot on but (I think it's) Lewis suddenly stops and can't reach Erling's pass anymore. Pure Clownery.

When those invitations aren't accepted a team knows it won't score on that day. Spurs knew as well we wouldn't.
it's Cherki not Lewis. I think it was the pass that was poor

The fuck ups yesterday were no better or worse than the fuck ups we saw all of last season irrespective of who was in goals. When closed down Lewis, Nunes, Stones, Dias, Gvardiol, all floundered. Playing out from the back worked with better players. It doesnt work anymore. We need to change our style.

As an outside dont you think this season as early as it is was always gonna be a year of bedding players into a style and system ?????
You may still go and win the league but i can see this new team taking a while to really push on
I agree and this summer is just the start of the re-load.

We will be losing a lot more next summer with Ederson, Ortega, Stones, Gundo, Bernardo in the last year of their contracts and Akanji, Ake and Kovacic will only have a year left.

I know we've already bought young players to cover some of those leaving and those who've gone out on loan will come back in, but they'll take a while to bed in.
So it's going to take a while for the squad to be performing to the level we've become accustomed too.

I thought yesterday encapsulated all of last season into 90 minutes. Great for 10 minutes, average for 30 minutes, awful for 40 minutes. We saw some individual moments, missed chances (Marmoush, Haaland), mistakes from our back 4, midfield constantly being played through. And finally, when Pep does make changes they are too late (Rodri, Foden).

We are no where near a title side - at the moment I’d honestly say Newcastle look more exciting and at least play decent football.

As a City fan, the last 10 years has been dreamland and it’s our turn now to re-build and get things right on the pitch. I for one would rather get to playing decent football and having 100% effort back again. If we won a trophy great, if we don’t then at least don’t roll over!

I’m not convinced what we’ve done since January is the hallmark of a top club. We’ve essentially signed quite a few players which most others clubs wouldn’t even consider. Marmoush was on €2m a year in Germany and if you go by what’s reported, we’ve given him £275k per week or £14.5m a year. An absolutely shambles if that is true.

The body language from some of the players yesterday was poor. Not a good look.

TBH I think playing out from the back is past its sell by date. Teams have now sussed out how to overcome it as Spurs did yesterday. A goalkeeping punt/ pass up field can enable our midfield to pick up the second ball and move quickly forward. OK we may lose possession half the time but it gives the defence some respite.

And we got 100 points with Delph at LB, a treble with no LBs at all.

So you don't need world class players at every position. We have a great all round LB in Ait-Nouri and a great defensive option in Gvardiol. That side of the defence is stronger than it's ever been, and it's simply the RB slot that's going to be a bit weaker.

We can win everything without 2 world class fullbacks and no fanbase should know that better than ours.
We managed without a LB because Delph and Zinchenko had some sort of defensive knowledge, were better passers and the rest of the team were top quality. We had legs in midfield which was world class, we had world class defenders, wingers who would score for fun and creators all over the place. We have none of that because the recruitment has been horrendous.

I didn’t know that about Marmoush and if that’s true then Fuckinghell. I always go back to the Nico transfer, RC last week of the window. Could be a bit of a red flag.

And every coach watching that yesterday will hone in on it and target him and the defence when he next plays.

Barca paid him 100k a week.
100%. Some of the salaries we’ve paid is criminal and echoes of Utd post Ferguson. Dias new contract is reported to be £250k plus - the £180k is the old contract. Rico Lewis has also trebled his salary - the same offer Forest made to him.
