Spurs (H) Post Match Thread

VAR checked the Rodri challenge with Lanzini in our box, but surprise surprise not when it’s us that wants a pen. Nobody can arrive at any conclusion other than it’s bent.
I agree
So what you're saying is that VAR makes the decision to check . They didn't check Rodri being fouled in the box today . So they are the interpreters . They make the decisions to check. What I'm trying to say is that they are totally sovereign and can decide the outcome of a game.

Now if they check and come to a conclusion that there's no foul do they then say nothing to the ref or must every check be brought to his attention ? just trying to understand the process here. Because if it's brought to his attention then Oliver presumably must go over to TV screen and view it himself .

So, there we have it, most comments about VAR and not the game. That tells you everything you need to know about what the game has become. On the first two performances spurs will be lucky to make the top six they were so poor. Without Sane we lack the blistering pace which is going to be a problem during the season. Think Foden would have given us more pace in that midfield today. I don’t see a midfield of Gundo and Rodri being quick enough in this league. For me Foden needs to start now to bring the energy. Bernardo and Kevin still getting up to speed. But there is no doubt about it we were snagged today.

The lack of discussion about the actual game in this thread is a perfect illustration of why introducing VAR is completely fucked.

It is going to be like that every week isn’t it. Talking about var rather than the game. I live for city but this could lead to me watching non league football more. I can’t stand it.

We have to take it on the chin.
It's hear to stay but it's ruining the game.
That aside we missed countless chances to finish them off and the incident at the end could have been irrelevant.
Why appease it when, as you say, It's ruining the game.
The missed chances are irrelevant to the ridiculous decision we saw today.

Yes I agree about sane - big miss when we chasing a late goal.

I genuinely have no desire to go Bournemouth next week now. I was at West Ham last week where the Sterling offside ruined the celebrations for the next goals even when VAR benefited us. Today I didn’t celebrate until after a few seconds.
I know it sounds daft but there’s more to football than seeing correct decisions. If I just wanted to see correct decisions then I’d stay and watch it at home. VAR just leaves me numb. Pre var if you got a decision it was a joy and if it went against you you’d have a moan and wait for MOTD to see if it was right or not. Everytime there’s a goal I don’t want to just stand soullessly until a man 100s miles away decides the outcome.

I recognize the numb sensation and it's the worst feeling. I remember screaming my lungs out when Sterling secured us the semifinals of the CL in April, only for the goal to be disallowed by maybe 1-2 cm on Aguero, and 1-2 minutes later. The same with this goal. What's the point of the game, of celebrating anymore? The post-VAR feeling is enough to never wanting to watch football again. It's just not the same anymore.

First of all I thought our general play was brilliant and we absolutely annihilated Spurs in a way that was truly a joy to watch. Now the elephant in the room was the finishing which was poor but we still did enough to win the game. Ederson made a poor mistake for the first goal with his positioning, but it happens to the best of keepers. Now about VAR. It made the correct decision about the handball but the issue is with the inconsistency of its use. Rodri can be grappled to the floor by the neck in the penalty box without VAR batting an eye. I am not one for conspiracy theories but that is blatant cheating in front of eyes. It is depressing that they just found a way to prevent us from winning more consistently.
