Spurs (H) - Post-Match Thread

You can only play like that if you are a side built to play on the counter attack. City play against parked buses most weeks and so were built to open up sides in that way. Sadly it means clubs like Spurs and sadly United have recently given us a bloody nose as they have the players the room to exploit the space behind. Just the way it is sadly.
True. It’s the risk we play with and has proved very effective. Unfortunately that strategy will come undone. Today another team took their chances. Certain players played in the wrong role only makes the game harder. Bernie beside Rodri and stones with Dias. Making so many changes impacts the players. Foden on the right was non existent.

And almost lost in the 86th minute when Rodri made that amazing block. We know when we play them we are up against 15, no doubt be someone like Oliver. We can beat them, they can beat us, depends if we have our scoring boots on to match them or the usual lead weights in our shooting boots like today. But if we defend and play like we did today against them, it will be a big goal difference swing as well as 3 points
Need the Mangala chuckle brothers in our central defense to never play that bad again

Another thing I noticed today was Spurs switching play to the left & constantly being 2 vs 1 on Cancelo. No wonder he was physically fucked later on... )(
I agree and in 1st half Cancello had little support always seemed 2 v1, foden, sterling and bernado no where to be seen?

Yeah, Pep told Dias to let Son onside. He also told Cancelo to be shit at defending and barely move. And I can’t believe he told Walker and Cancelo to miss easy controls…

We dominated most of the time, and Spurs chances were all due to individual mistakes. Pep cannot do anything about that.
You shouldn't concede a goal like Spurs winner so soon after getting back into the game. It was poor management from the sideline.

Conte masterclass.

We have a problem when going behind. Need to handle the pressure better if we're to win the title. Liverpool are going to be on our necks soon.
Not at all. That’s how he always sets up, so no real surprise about tactics, though he was even more defensive than usual because it was against us and on the back of a bad run. No space in the box, we had to take one more of our chances in the first half and they will always be a threat on the counter.

When we go behind we seem to panic and leave gaps as we attack with the adrenalin pumping a bit more. Walker, Foden the weak links tonight.

Summed up pretty well here

Manchester City captain Ilkay Gundogan, speaking to Sky Sports: "I remember us being here before the match saying we need to be careful when we lose the ball in transitions.

"It feels in all three goals we invited them to score. We gave the ball away too easily.

"It didn't feel very hard because they defended very deep. For some parts of the game we moved the ball quite well, we created enough chances to score goals.

"But we gave the ball away, and I haven't seen that from us in some time to give away so many chances.

"There is a long way to go [in the title race], if we didn't know before we know now.

"Now we've got to work hard over the next couple of weeks."

can you link me to this tS? i would like to hear his thoughts.

Cancelo can not defend.
Nobody can when they hold a line 60 yards from the goal. Our game was bonkers tonight, we totally lost our heads, Dias getting worked up about something before Mahrez took the penalty; Cancelo and Walker were already keen to play the last 5 minutes while in the dressing room. I hate a talk about leaders or 'the leaders' on the pitch and we literally had none of these.
The same clubs we play against, the same tactics, even the same bonkers results we managed to lose - how manty 3:2 losses we had in last few years. Patterns, patterns, patterns......we played 4-D chess and they played checkers with only two pieces and they fucked us. JFC, I am getting worked up now......,

I think today the mistake was not playing Ferno. The centre backs cannot pick up Kane when he drops deep. That is exactly why drops deep, to pull one of the centre backs out of position. Ferno would not have let Kane turn and play those balls. Just my opinion and also we never are really at it after a CL away game.
We are still 6 points clear and Liverpool have to win their game in hand. Not a forgone conclusion and they still have to come to our place.

Liverpool too strong pal small fuck ups like we have had for two seasons with no striker will kill us.we won it last year due to the team adapting well to covid conditions and van dyke being injured for Liverpool.we never learned this season and let two strikers go Aguero and ferran torres and bring no one in
