Not sure I remember the Akanji era… Gundo though, very sad!

Akanji was very decent in the treble season....he made his fuck ups but he also played a pivotal role in games. He deserves some respect from the fans even though he wasnt always the first name in fans heads...Him playing at right back at times really helped us out.

Good old Lonnie he used to visit relatives regularly in Oldfield Brow (Altrincham) and always had time for a chat.

Had one of his sons as an entertainer on a cruise and he was superb.

A guy I used to work told me a story about Lonnie don’t know if true or not to be fair. It went that back in the day Lonnie was good mates with a struggling musician by the name of Justin Hayward who was always borrowing money off him. One day when a skint Justin approached Lonnie for a couple of quid Lonnie suggested “Instead of me lending you money I’ll buy one of your songs off you.” The song that Lonnie bought was “ Nights in White Satin.” Like I said don’t know if it’s true but a nice windfall for Lonnie if it is.
