Spurs thread 2020/21

Ha! What?? Furlough shareholders???

As to the board of directors, they took a pay cut right at the beginning and it is still being applied. They are the only people working for Spurs to have been thus affected. And, no, they were never down to be furloughed. Because they all still had jobs to do.

That's the point, you see. The furlough scheme was designed to save the jobs of those people who no longer had a job to do because of COVID. And, naturally, for a company that relies on much of its income from hosting mass attendance events, there were a lot of people at Spurs who no longer had a job to do.

So, much as it seems that you would like it to be so, this isn't a matter of rich vs poor.
We didnt do it , no excuse, it was tacky

Being one of the wealthiest clubs in world football isn't much use when you can't earn any revenues. At the time that Spurs made the decision to furlough, they were on the edge of a potentially catastrophic financial precipice. In the end, the catastrophe didn't transpire. But Levy didn't have the benefit of that hindsight.

As to Spurs being self serving, every club is. As a matter of interest, do you take the same political stance towards your owners?
If city had of acted in the same manner I would have a had a far more scathing view. This is not about football it’s about treating people with a bit of respect. The local people make up the majority of the working staff at clubs. Spurs treated them with distain. Their actions were nothing more akin to scraping mud from the bottom of a football boot only this time the mud was working class people in a pandemic.

You can’t defend the action of this ‘business’. Shareholders get their bonus ok this year? Dividends must be paid no matter the cost.

Spurs haven't paid any dividends to shareholders in donkeys' years.

How is furloughing staff who can't do their jobs treating them with disdain? Have you been equally damning of every other highly profitable, medium to large sized company that decided to furlough staff that can't work? If not, why not? The furloughed staff at Spurs would still have been paid full whack (Spurs were going to make up the excess 20%) so it would have made fuck all difference to them other than that, Spurs having used the furlough scheme, there was far less likelihood of their employer having to make them permanently unemployed as a consequence of COVID (as has happened at some other clubs, including Arsenal).

Lastly, since being holier than thou appears to be the name of this game, I'll ask again (but slightly differently), do you apply the same standards of ethics to all football club owners in their wider dealings or just to those owners of clubs that you don't like?

Stop trying to justify an act of betrayal by your wonderful club on ordinary decent people. The hole is getting deeper and deeper but if you Insist on entrenching yourself further I will not partake. Tottenham fucked up as did Arsenal & The dippers until the media turned on them. It’s not my fault you can’t live with the truth.

Help is on the way: the deluded brick throwers have a ‘inconvenient truth’ thread on Rawk. Maybe you should check it out. It is just below the ‘ Spurs title winners September edition’;)

Why do you keep going on about Manchester City's owners?

Do you even know who they are? You seem to be implying that it's the UAE but it's Sheikh Mansour, Silverlake investments, and CMC. We know as much about the ethics of these owners as we do about Joe Lewis. Virtually all Premier League clubs are owned by billionaires and I think it's pointless to try and claim that some are more ethical than others.

You really should not take media reporting of Manchester City at face value. All they are interested in is selling papers which in terms of football means giving Manchester Utd and Liverpool fans what they want to read (Manchester City are the devil incarnate).

To be fair I mever went when Pearce was manager, though for non football reasons. Guess I just got lucky.

Lucky you :) Although I hope the non football reasons wasn't serious on your behalf obviously.

That football was a really hard watch!
Not serious in a major way thanks, well not prison or health reasons anyway. All good, just couldn't put fooball first or even second just lucked out it was the Pearce years.

"Act of Betrayal"?

Once again, the furlough scheme was designed to protect jobs for those people who, for an indefinite period, no longer had jobs to do. That is all. If you really consider protecting jobs to be a betrayal of the people whose jobs are being protected, then we had best leave it there.

To be clear, I'm not having a pop at City's owners.

I'm questioning why wolviedinho's socialism appears to be so selective.

Any news on Kane’s injury ..

Given what happened and how he went off, I'd say that there's no chance of him being fit for the final. The only question is whether he's so determined to make it that he plays when unfit. I hope not.

Not that it makes much difference. Even if your boys aren't at your imperious best at the moment, you are streets ahead of current Spurs. It could be embarrassing.

Kanes not the problem. Its fuckin son that turns into messi every time he plays against us.

I wish he would again, obviously, but Mourinho has ruined Son too. He's in a very poor run of form.

If Pep had called Spurs the Harry Kane team now, no one could argue with him.
