Spurs vs City post match

Fair play to spurs.. Deserved their win...we improved in the 2nd half.. Not good enough though
 
Credit to Spurs they where excellent to a man, especially Son who was outstanding.

We where poor as a side and individually Stones aside and the line up can obviously be questioned.

Ref was shite and allowed them to foul constantly i thought.

That said, we had several great chances 2nd half and did what we do too many times and thats waste them and in games like this it will bury you.

Top of the league, 6 wins and 1 defeat away against an unbeaten side who are still below us!

I will settle for that.

How would you have changed the lineup (taking into account injuries and match fitness)?
 
Against a strong team away, it's one of those games that I would prefer a draw but a loss is unfortunately a realistic outcome. This and klopp will be our most difficult games.
 
Kolarov own goal set the tone, that was always going to be a tough game without bundling the ball into our own net in the first 10 minutes. I'm getting a bit pissed off with red cards and bloody own goals
 
The difference ultimately was that Spurs have defenders that can actually defend. We have too many that really can't. Wrong pair of full backs today IMO and Fernando is just poor. Much improved second half but Spurs defended very well.

Oh well, the better team on the day won and hopefully we have learnt something from that.
 
Perspective needed here I think. Spurs were charged up first 25mins and got the breaks their efforts warranted. We came back into it and in the second 45 should have scored 2 or more. Have to be clinical in these games. Overall Spurs deserved the win. Good strong performances all over the park from them and Pep will have learned some valuable things about our squad. We are going to lose games over the season and not many will come away from WHL with points in the bag. Still a work in progress and long term this kind of game is very useful. Onwards and upwards.
 
Two new quick aggressive full backs in Jan please, same could be said for central midfield
 
4-2-3-1 first half with Saba, Kolarov inverted to help both Fernan build up play cannot move the ball pass center line. Build up play totally fail today due to quality of players especial Fernando offensively and defensively, totally waste up space.
 
Its all part of the learning process.
if some font loan Pep will get them out.

Well done Spurs. Tactically stifled us, no need for Rose to act a **** though.
 
As i think most of us have suspected for a while;

Against the real best teams (those who will press us up high with pace and power - spurs, liverpool in particular) we will struggle unless we have our absolute best 11 on the pitch.....If Kolorov fernando, navas and unfortunately zabba are playing against those teams ...and even ottomendi.....the Pep has to change the way he plays or suffer more days like this....

We didnt play badly in the second half...infact we were the better footballing team, but their pace and power coupled with those players mentioned and their use of the ball, speed of thought (and in all those players it isn't good enough) will mean teams who press us will create lots of chances and get lots of space

I think the league is between us, liverpool and spurs and we have have just lost 3 pt to our main rivals (everton will do well as well)....unless we have our best 11 in the reverse fixture and against liverpool we will lose more pts to them

The other thing to consider is that other teams that play against liverpool and spurs won't make it as easy for them as we did today as we played directly into their hands especially in the first half and with the selection of the two fullbacks and fernando.

The fullback positions were a worry in the summer, it needs to be sorted at the earliest opportunity (but I suspect it won't happen till next summer).....

Wanyama showed what fernando should be and is so far away from.

Kolorov doesn't have the engine, pace to play as a pep fullback...he is defensively woeful and that hasn't changed (in the fullback position) with pep coming in and zabba's legs have gone...can still play against the lesser teams but not against high energy teams
