I doubt he'l get sent down, just end up paying a heavy fine no doubt like most of em in the limelight get away with.

Dunno - Lester Piggot? Ken Dodd? Could be interesting...

True.. but olde Arry is footballs media spokeman. I would be shocked if he was sentenced to jailtime, utterly delighted, but shocked.

Tax Evasion - Admission of Guilt

As with any criminal prosecution, admission of guilt plays a major part in determination of severity of sentence. If one stands before the court and simply admits that yes, they did a wrong thing and are remorseful of that act, cases involving tax evasion are usually removed from punishment by custodial sentence. In truth, where parties have admitted guilt and made restitution to the government, time spent in custody is an extreme rarity reserved only for high profile blatantly non-remorseful offenders.

Let's hope he pleads 'Not Guilty' and goes to gaol.

Could get sent down

He will not get sent down. If he is found guilty, and remember, he is innocent at the moment(!), he will be fined. And understand, too, that we are probably talking of a few thousand pounds of unpaid tax. Shocking, when you consider what he probably gets paid for the job he does, but why is it that HMRC can go for someone like 'Arry, and scores of MP's, having been fleecing the taxpayer on a larger scale, seem to have escaped any prosecution?

it would be a different charge if the only issue was unpaid tax. the charge is that he deliberately deceived the authorities.

No doubt they'll be a two page "I ain't dun nuffink wrong" story in tommorows Sun. Followed by an "exclusive" interview on SSN.

Lester Piggot got sent down for tax evasion about 20 years ago!

He did but he got fined first then the dumarse paid the fine with a check from an another account that he had failed to declare so the tax man said fuck that your going down old son.

Ken Dodd was tried for tax evasion but went to trial.
They held the trial in Liverpool so needless to say he was found not guilty as Liverpool people could not grasp the concept of having to pay tax in the first place.
