Stadium Developments thread - San Siro to be demolished (p56)

To be fair, Spurs stadium blows anything away. I can’t see how a new build stadium beats that. It is a thing of beauty, which is very annoying seeing as it’s Spurs.
You can’t see how a new stadium could beat a new stadium?
I mean a couple of new NFL stadiums give it a good run for its money. Although I’m not a fan of the aesthetics of both the new Bernabéu, and Camp Nou, they will both look so much better on the inside with better facilities than what Everton are providing.

Nice stadium, bit of a dick move from the Wigan lad who scored first though.
Dipper fan allegedly.

Pleased for Everton that they look like they will survive the drop to play prem football there. I normally enjoy the failures of other clubs but going down this season would have just been too cruel.

Obviously they have to survive next year as well...

I remember the nerves when we moved to eastlands at the time. Luckily we started the season pretty well and although we didn't win until the 3rd home game we had won both our 2 away games and had beaten Barca in that friendly. And a Europe league qualifier we won as well. So it was a fairly good start.

Waiting for the first pissed up Evertonian to go in the drink after, or even before one of their games - he'll not get found until he washes up on a beach in North Wales!
A scouser go near water? That’s Kryptonite to them,

This is it really.

I struggle to see why you would want to develop a stadium that is supposed to be the centre piece of the area, and you have it with no street fronting. The turnstiles are just a steel mesh door, and everything else is just brick. You can’t really see inside it, or interact with it.

We are supposed to be building our stadium in a city park just North of SJP. I want you to be able to walk through the park, see inside the stadium, the restaurants, the bars, the cafés on the ground floor that can be accessed on a non-matchday.

The stands internally look like German standard bleachers. Even the concourse looks very bare.
Someone on the Newcastle forum summed it up well. It looks like the old White Hart Lane, and once you see it, you can’t unsee it.

I just think that they could have done so much more with it. It’s designed to look good from a distance, and once you get close to it, be all function and no form.

I like the external appearance. It's unique. It's not a modern bowl like the majority of other new grounds and it's in a location that sets it aside from other clubs too. Contemporary design can go out of fashion quite quickly. The Spurs stadium is excellent inside and outside, undoubtedly but with the historical design influences to Everton's ground I quite like it.

Internally though you're spot on. It feels very much as though they've looked at the most simple and efficient way to get a bigger stadium and then thrown some money on the external appearance. The Spurs ground, like most bowls has the curved stands and big corner screens. They add to the interest.

Having said that, it's a football stadium. Goodison is an historic old ground, where the fans are on top of the action. A uniform, rectangular approach to the seating is what has worked for generations when it comes to viewing football and retaining atmosphere.

The Etihad took a while for us to settle into, and has had more than its fair share of brilliant moments now. But atmosphere wise it is impacted by the internal layout and I don't think Everton's will share that issue.

That big window?? Ok so it might look ok from the outside, but what's the point of it inside? Just takes up space that could have had extra capacity,

There’s another dock behind the stand so no room for extra capacity. The design likely came about so they could keep the roof the same height around all the stadium. The glass area should at least ensure the pitch gets lots of light.

Your right, I actually thought the window looked out onto the Mersey, just looks daft

The big question though is if you could swap your stadium for theirs, would you?

I understand in your situation the Etihad has a bigger capacity, I would go as far as saying you still get to keep the Etihad campus around the stadium though.

I honestly don’t think many of you would, and that’s also the situation if I said the capacity matched the Etihad as well.

I know I wouldn’t swap SJP for it. This is coming from someone who thinks aesthetically SJP looks shabby, and I’m in favour of us building a new stadium. But honestly, it offers nothing but a marginal increase in capacity over SJP, and I’d rather take a roll of the dice and see what we got with our stadium plans.

An article tonight seems to indicate that we will be making a decision next week on to build a new stadium, or extend SJP, and the updated figure for a new stadium would be £1.5bn-£2bn.
The £1.2bn figure from a few weeks ago did seem low, especially when they had quotes of between £1bn-£4bn.

To put it into perspective, that would make it over double the price of what building the Tyne & Wear Metro was, even accounting for inflation.

Just looking at the near impossible task of getting a ticket for Bournemouth as their capacity is just over 11k. Was wondering what the capacity of each of our stands are individually. I would assume any one of our stands has a greater capacity than the whole of the Vitality stadium.
