Stadium Developments thread - San Siro to be demolished (p56)

Oh Dear. Never Mind.

Manchester United’s ‘Wembley of the North’ stadium plan hits the buffers

  • Talks deadlocked over asking price of rail terminal site
  • Freightliner’s £400m demand could delay £4.2bn build
While Freightliner is understood to have expressed a willingness to relocate from Trafford Park to nearby St Helens, the company is seeking around £400m for the land, with United valuing it at between £40m and £50m. Ratcliffe has made it clear United are unwilling to accept the asking price set by Freightliner’s parent company, Brookfield, and initial discussions are believed to have reached an impasse.

A source said Freightliner “have United over a barrel”. The company is willing to relocate to a proposed new site that would offer increased capacity for trains, but it is in no rush to move. The club’s view is that Freightliner will only receive what would be a significant windfall if they are willing to drop the asking price.

At a Fans Forum event on 30 June, United conceded that securing the land required could prove an obstacle to beginning work this year. United were asked by supporters whether building would commence in 2025 or 2026 and responded: “Planning work is continuing, including the consultations with fans discussed during today’s meeting.

Ha ha

Ha ha ha ha

Ha ha.

Surely even the most gullible, naive, and unworldly of the lemmings must be able to see all this for what it is?

As of 2025 that pitiful excuse for a football club are so far behind every other club that they are fast becoming an embarrassment. Debt-ridden, paying absolutely obscene wages for below-average journeymen who don't really want to be there, and now they are going to take on Freightliner in order to gain that extra bit of land they need in order to build an extension to their garden shed. A lengthy court battle with a company who know the club doesn't have a pot to piss in.

I am sure Jim's new best mate Andy might assist with a CPO but the rules should preclude Utd from nicking the land at a significantly below market value price - where has Jim come up with his £30-40m - no doubt his buy everything as cheap as possible and sell shit for tons strategy!

I’d like City to buy the land and then fuck the rag cunts off.

Yet they keep spending big on players.

Unfortunately they will get it.
There is enough MPs who are Man Utd customers to make it happen, and Ratcliffe has a team of lobbyists who are responsible for his wealth in the first place. There will also be plenty of them with companies who can gain money from the contracts as well.

Also and I don’t mean this disrespectfully to you all, but over the last 20 years our governments have loved throwing money towards Greater Manchester and saying that they have invested in the north.
I’m not saying that you aren’t entitled to it, you have had deprived areas like elsewhere, what I’m saying is that outside of both Greater Manchester and London, the money spent by the government has been pitiful.

They were getting crowds of 16k for league games in 2006.
so what have they done that makes their crowd increase so much and makes the place so lively on a match day, maybe City should ask them rather than cocking up the relationship with our own fans

I think even Stevie Wonder would have seen that coming.

Three promotions and largely the same fans going now as before in an old ‘football ground’ rather than a new ‘football stadium’.

Their fans haven’t been spoiled by 15 years of success.

If only a certain person hadn’t ‘bought’ all the pubs within easy walking distance to the ground and run them into the ground.
