Not sure whether this is in any way connected but just received a mysterious e-mail from the club entitled "Opportunities like this only happen once in a blue moon" and some spiel about 10am 16.10.

If I remember correctly, in one of those surveys for potential Season Ticket sales we filled in earlier this year, there was a question along the lines of if you are prepared to pay up front for 2-3 years to secure your Season-card at a heavily discounted price or even get your 1st year free in the new extended part of the stadium!

I can't remember the exact wording, however it would be interesting to know if anybody can remember the exact offer and if those who have received this email actually registered an interest in that option!

Then again I could be miles off, but my guess is as good as the next man's guess I suppose!

I received one of those 16.10 e-mails too. Can't recall what answers I gave re the survey but I assume there'll be a follow-up e-mail with details.

Every League game bar 1 sold out over 2 and a half seasons.
Very difficult to grow our support when its the same fans going all the time, and that means that for midweek games, those same fans are skint

I don't entirely disagree with you, but I just have to query your argument here. You're saying that our limited capacity means that the same fans come to games every time which is stopping new fans from attending, then you say that the cost of repeat attending means that those fans can't afford to make the midweek games. Surely if this is the case, then the midweek games should have lots of spare places to be filled with new fans, thus solving the problem? You seem to be arguing that during the midweek games, the repeat-attending fans both attend and can't afford to attend, so don't attend.

Re: Stadium Expansion excitement!

Why are people worried about filling it up at first?

I doubt it'll be a problem except for midweek cup games.

You can bet your bottom dollar that against the top sides, we will be able to shift the seats.

Greater Manchester is undergoing rapid population growth. In 5 years, many young adults that watch on telly now will be well situated in their lives and be able to afford a measly £299 season ticket and such.

The expansion is not for now. It's getting it out of the way now so that it doesn't even have to be a concern in the future when we WILL need the seats. If the expansion was meant to be filled all the time, immediately, then it isn't big enough.

And don't forget, when the Collar site leisure destination, arena?, Hotels?, conference centre?, etc, are built alongside and around the stadium, that will bring in 100,000's of other people throughout the season who might fancy watching a match, even though they don't support City.

And if all else fails, City can increase the away allocation. I'm sure the likes of Bayern would have sold 6000 tickets had they been given the opportunity.

All that long-term strategic stuff is all very well and good, but what about the short-term, searing embarrassment if we don't sell out every week?

I'm sure that it would send the many 'empty seat' posters apoplectic.

On a personal level it's of little consequence and I sense it's the same for you.

Brilliant this..build it and they will come, and if they don´t we could give every fcuker a fiver to attend games just to build the fanbase for the future.
But seriously, how can anyone complain about this? About making cheaper seats available?
Well, perhaps someone will have to move seats but is it such a disaster really?

The more seats we got the better for keeping the price reasonable as well, the old supply and demand

Yep people who are against it either embarrassed easily, pussies or rags on here taking the piss

City's pool of support is limited by the stadium capacity

The 47k who go every fortnight must be more or less the same people week after week and the capacity constraint makes it difficult to introduce new fans. In reality most fans are seasoncard holders, so how do you take a long a mate or family? Where do you sit? It can be done, but takes planning.

Casual fans can get tickets for midweek Cup games, but they are not as popular, and often inconvenient, and they are not the big games that tend to attract new fans. The Champions League games are an exception, but then they are expensive.

The empty seats at League Cup games are used as an argument against increasing the capacity, but my point is that City's match-going fan base would be bigger, and the League Cup crowds would be bigger if City had extra capacity for the big League games at the weekend, because that's when most fans are historically introduced to the club. if you'

My sarcasm doesn't escape you as usual, Davs.

One only needs to look at pretty much any footage at Maine Road and you've got a more than even chance of seeing plenty of empty seats. It's a typical stick which pin-dick united fans like to try and beat us with, but whether we sell 90% or 98% of our ground for a game v Fulham does it really matter? It makes no difference to my life and I would suggest any City fan who lets it occupy his thoughts too much needs to get out a bit more.

its pretty shit that there wont be one end full of city fans ( south stand)

I dont think it will make a difference to the atmosphere, it will be like now, just with two more seated tiers.

But there are three other stands, including one end full of City fans so what's your beef?

-- Wed Oct 09, 2013 8:43 pm --

Yeah, this is my fear if it's going to stay the same too. As long as the singers are separated by up to 3,000 away fans, they will never be on the same page.

should have a section in the new third tier of the south stand is completely for singers/flags/scarfs etc

tell people:

* People will stand
* People will wave flags
* People will sing
* You can't stand there in silence with your arms folded
