Has anything concrete been said by the club?

There is an official Man City group on Facebook now, a lad who claims to work there posted this before and it got me thinking. Could be BS, dunno.

"I work at city and the end of this season work starts on the ground. It wil hold 75 thousand within the next 2 seasons".

There were various posts on here back in May (maybe June) that work was supposed to be starting this summer. No concerts were being held at the stadium this summer ni order to facilitate the commencement of work. So much for that!

I heard from someone within the council that the owners wish to increase the capacity to over 75 thousand , but have not heard any timescale. However with the Metrolink being ready for season 2011-12 it could be right
Apparently the plan will involve demolishing the existing superstore and building a Fanzone in an extended southstand complex. With the extra capacity they will need to construct two additional spiral exit towers as well. There will also be other things on the complex including hotels, bars and theatres, so that it will be in use 7 days a week.

work has been done in the ground but not to expand the capacity. all the interior has changed i.e- where the offices were behind the main reception in the CB stand, all those have gone and the ticket office is now in the shop etc...
maybe thats what they meant

I don't think the capacity would be 75,000. When the stadium was designed it was designed so that if the need should arise then the capacity could be increased. This would be done by adding a third tier on the north and south stands. So this would probably only increase tha capacity to 60,000-65,000.

Ideally the stadium could be made bigger than the Theatre of Debt. I know this sounds a bit Rag obsessed but it just really winds me up on Derby Day when the attendance is announced and those Rag Tw@ts cheer.

This may sound a little odd and completely wrong, but when we first took the stadium over after the commonwealth game the pitch was dug down and the bottom tier is now where the running track was, could we do the same again?

Yes there is room for around 10K seats if that did happen and the fans would be in touching distance from the players, bring back the good old days!
