Stadium expansion

This may sound a little odd and completely wrong, but when we first took the stadium over after the commonwealth game the pitch was dug down and the bottom tier is now where the running track was, could we do the same again?

Yes there is room for around 10K seats if that did happen and the fans would be in touching distance from the players, bring back the good old days!

This was discussed on here not long ago, I'm sure we're too near the water table to allow further excavation.

I'm sure you can as there are rooms and stuff under the pitch its self.

On the subject of the running track, an Arsenal fan on 606 yesterday slagging us off said we need to get rid of the running track around our pitch, it looks terrible......

I think there is every chance that as we stand now the ground wouldn't be picked.

Don't talk soft, lad. There's a FIFA general rule for the World Cup that only one city in the bidding country can offer more than two stadia, but they're prepared to waive it in certain circumstances.

CoMS is a UEFA Elite Stadium with one of UEFA's highest overall rankings in Europe and it's unthinkable that it wouldn't be used at all in a World Cup even if not improved. The idea that they'll use somewhere like Hull or Leicester instead just to take games to an extra city is pretty laughable.

The problem for our owners is that, without expansion, they wouldn't get the really big games in Manchester, which would go to Old Trafford because of its higher capacity. That's what they want to address - and in the process get a semi final in 2018 if England hosts the event.

You have not read the World Cup bid then I take it, in which they specifically talk about taking International Football into areas of the country that normally wouldn't see it?

Of course I've read it. Plenty of scope to do that and still use two stadia in Manchester, given that both are of a calibre to host recent European finals. ANYWHERE outside London wouldn't see international football normally given that Wembley will get all England internationals for the next 20 years!

I don't think the capacity would be 75,000. When the stadium was designed it was designed so that if the need should arise then the capacity could be increased. This would be done by adding a third tier on the north and south stands. So this would probably only increase tha capacity to 60,000-65,000.

Ideally the stadium could be made bigger than the Theatre of Debt. I know this sounds a bit Rag obsessed but it just really winds me up on Derby Day when the attendance is announced and those Rag Tw@ts cheer.

maybe not for much longer ,it looks like the scum are struggling to sell season tickets

<a class="postlink" href="http://timesonline.typepad.com/thegame/2009/08/recession-appears-to-be-biting-even-at-old-trafford-with-season-tickets-for-sale.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://timesonline.typepad.com/thegame/ ... -sale.html</a>

My dad went to city today and said that the ticket office is now above the citystore, now i haven't seen it myself but just imagining it i can't see it working, is this permanent? 'cos if it is god help us if we actually do make a cup final, we'll be queuing for days!

The stadium that was built wasn't the stadium that could have it's capacity easily increased to 60,000 or more. It wouldn't be easy to add a third tier at the two ends, it would need the whole roof to be reset. It wouldn't be easy to add that much more capacity by digging down and changing the lower tier, as the angle of the middle tier would set limits on the angle of the lower tier.
