Stadium Turnstile Upgrades

Yep, like shops they can refuse you entry for whatever reason they see fit. Even if they don't like the look of you.

With it being private property, they don't have to let anyone in theoretically
Shame they have to let anyone out, at least until the game has finished…

Come on Steve.

I've know you far too long.

Just because I don't agree with facial recognition, that doesn't make me a paranoid fool, or other people paranoid fools.

If other people aren't bothered about facial recognition, fair enough.
You should start a facial recognition thread then, as I’ve seen absolutely nothing at all to suggest that City are implementing any such thing.
Now, if they do, that will be a whole different conversation, and there will rightly be an outcry, with privacy groups up in arms supporting the fans but, until then, is it worth worrying about?

Articles have been posted on this thread by @LongsightM13 proving the club have actually been interested in the idea for quite a few years,

The club made first steps to bringing this in back in 2019, when they partnered with an American facial recognition tech company, there's an unpaywalled article from the Times on it here: https://archive.is/ZzhLX

And then a follow up by the Guardian here where the club had to walk back on it after pressure by national groups: https://www.theguardian.com/technol...e-calls-to-reconsider-facial-recognition-tech

…clearing out some old memorabilia from the loft this week I found a photo ID membership card from the 1994 season. Does anyone remember what the purpose of these cards were?

I wasn’t a ST-holder then so perhaps they were needed to buy tickets,.

I couldn’t reuse it today without sticking some hair back on..
We used to have photo ID cards if you were a member of the Travel Club and wanted to buy tickets for the special or official coaches.

So now we're at a 10 game minimum must attend rule, and possible facial recognition, to keep your season ticket, and to gain entry into the Etihad.

FFS, when and where is it going to end?

Like 10,000's of other City fans I'm just going to the match to watch City play, which I've done for the last 48 years since I was 9 years old.

I bet the directors, Khaldoon, etc won't have to use facial recognition to get into the Etihad. They will just waltz through the CB main entrance flanked by security.
Well one of your reasons for wondering ''where is it going to end'' hasn't even begun yet.

And we had a thread on it back then

Your face and details are captured all over, and it's use will only increase, one more place makes no difference.
But it does.... it does because why should we have to? I am not a number I am a person and I do not want my face/photo/facial recognition all over the place. I can't object when I am walking along the pavement or doing my shopping but I can object when I am going peacefully and calmly to a FOOTBALL MATCH!!!!!

Well they haven't said they are using it but if they do then worry about it then. Maybe not youself,I don't know., but how many complaining use facial or fingerprint ID to use their phone, or concert tickets, banking, Apple pay various phone apps. Before we even mention travelling abroad.
Many will already use facial recognition to get into the ground with their S/C mobile wallet now.

Please see my posting in the Off Topic Forum in the thread 'What is the World coming to....' you will understand why I lost it a bit in that posting you have just quoted. I totally and utterly apologise. :-) :-)

Have see a few posters use this as an example & its inaccurate.

Almost like comparing oranges with apples.

When you use Face ID on your Apple or Samsung phone the image is locked to your device only. Its not sent or processed to Apple or Google servers etc for analysis or matching algorithms.

Nobody is saying City are doing that though, they aren't asking fans for photos. The capability is there for staff, the only ones saying it's for fans are posters assuming it here and getting angry about something that might never happen.

Plus you have a choice. You can use an alternative.

Interesting video. 9 months old.

All NFL stadiums are installing facial recognition.

Initially it will only be for team staff, employees, media members, anyone who needs credentials. (sounds familiar) After that it will be rolled out to all fans. Fans of the Cleveland Browns have trialed it. I'll find that video. In work atm.

I'm not falling out with you or looking for an argument. You're entitled to your opinion. I like your posts. :-)

But if you think City are installing expensive, brand new, facial recognition turnstiles, just for staff, you are deluded mate.

Yes, the staff will trial it first. Any teething problems will be ironed out. Then it will be rolled out to the fans.

See the above video as an example of what City could do.

It will be definitely, but if its quicker to get in, a safer aspect ie terrorism etc, what's the problem ?
Only downside is if it means you can't add friends & family ?

There's more than that in my opinion. I will post what I think later on. Still in work atm.

The amount of people who commit terrorism and are known to the police and authorities and walk free amongst us is breathtaking.

These cameras can't stop them because they don't care if someone sees them do it, it's purely expeditious so they can get money off us faster.

Look at a burger?

It's yours sir, have a nice day :)
