Stadium Turnstile Upgrades

As I may have mentioned before, we've installed facial recognition software at work. Instead of logging in/out of the building, you show your face to the screen, push a button and it records your presence. Its comparing to a camera picture taken previously. I've checked today, and the whole system does not fall foul of GDPR as the images aren't held by the company (incidentally, we're shit-hot on the implications and actions of GDPR).

So, what I'm suggesting is that these camera/face recognition systems are GDPR-compliant (presumably as images not stored by the club themselves), and that despite some IT foul-ups many years ago, it's entirely possible that City now have processes and procedures that meet current laws. Unless of course, you think the club is so stupid that they never learn from anything that happens....

So who is holding them? And are they complying with GDPR?
Not sure you can abrogate your responsibility by saying someone else holds the data

Maybe they aren't held by anyone.
The camera does its job to allow or deny entry but doesn't store the photo anywhere and is immediately deleted.

If you don't want a picture taken and stored of your face, can you legally request that?

What is it comparing your face to then, if it doesn't store your image somewhere?

Yes but what about if and when your company or City gets hacked (are M&S back online yet?) and all these images end up on some Russian rag's AI generated fake porn site?

Privacy:
There are privacy concerns associated with the use of facial recognition, especially when it comes to the collection and storage of facial data.

In my case they'd need to generate an AI body AND face to interest anyone

Rags don’t need russian AI to generate fake porn, they can just tune into sky sports every Saturday afternoon and watch them get fucked up the arse til they’re red raw.

There are different legal provisions. Depends on who the main contractual relationship is with
In a case like this, the employer (or City) would be the data holder
If they want to farm some of it off to a contractor, then they’d be classed as a data processor
But City (or the employer) would still have ultimate responsibility

A good article here from a few years ago by the European federation of supporters representative groups on why this should be treated with suspicion

I'm not saying it will happen, but if it does happen, it could be challenged in a court of law by 1 City fan or a group of City fans.
You can bet that consent to allow the club to use facial recognition will be one of the terms and conditions attached to purchasing a season ticket.
