Stand leaders

We're not gonna see a safe standing area in the ground. Ever. It would instantly take us from a UEFA Cat 4 ground to a Cat 1 ground. I'd like to see it as much as the next man but it's not plausible.

There have been many-a-time where I've been caught singing on my own - yes, even stone sober. I couldn't give a toss, either, but it does upset me mildly to see this same conversation come up over and over again. We're trying.
You'll have to educate me on this, but I can't find anything in Wikipedia to suggest that Cat 1 and Cat 4 stadiums are affected by the provision, or lack of, safe standing areas. But what I do find in the list of Cat 4 stadiums is a number of those in Germany where safe standing is perfectly acceptable.

To mind, atmosphere is something that is spontaneous, or it is contrived. If it's contrived, it's it the same ballpark as playing a jingle after every goal, as practised by tin pot clubs.

I certainly don't want to pay good money to have some oik with a megaphone telling me when and what to sing. If some people do, then by all means let them have a special section, the equivalent of the family stand.

I'm old-fashioned. When I go, I go to watch the football - you know, that game thing they play on the green bit between the stands. I don't want deafening music, 'entertainers' or wanabe nazis telling me how to behave.

First thoughts was fuck no but anything to improve our abysmal atmosphere. Those Ultras seem to pull it off quite well.

I liked the line "If you're in a church you stand up to sing."

Don't get me wrong , I'm not sayin we should have a guy with a megaphone but just stating that other fans across Europe do it and it's very effective and everyone in that stadium seem to enjoy it and join in . What I'm sayin is, why is it that if we did it in this country, people would shudder at it rather than enjoy themselves and join in tryin to improve the atmos and gettin behind the team . It's just strange how we act in this country at times . So many moan about something but then just take the piss and mock when someone try's sorting out what was previously being moaned about!. Do people really want to sit in silence or do they want to create an atmos ?.

I personally don't think the idea will work due to the attitude of many of ours fans . The only way it'll get sorted is when we have a proper dedicated singing block .

I 've managed to enjoy myself at the football for years without a head cheer leader in my block.

Manage to get behind the team too.

Hate to say it, but a lot of people see "their way" as the only way. They don't seem to understand that not every supporters wants or needs constant singing and bouncing around to have a good time at the football.

For those that do, great. Go for it with your singing section. But for gods sake leave the rest of us alone.

Exactly why iv stated we need a dedicated singing section . I prob get equally pissed off when I see people sat I silence . I personally think goin to the football is all about gettin behind the team and creating an atmos.

With over 45,000 in our stadium, your goin to get every sort of fan mixed together . Some want to watch in silence, some want to sit, some want to stand, some want to sing . We all mixed together at the mo and the sooner we're moved into our suited blocks the better .

Personally, I find our atmos embarressing on far too many occasions .

Why would you get pissed off if someone chooses a way of supporting thats different to your own?

I just don't get that.

I'm all for a singing section FWIW.

Because I stand/sit there and ask myself why people don't join in with songs ect . It's just baffles me why people choose not to get behind the team . Yes, they choose their own way to 'support' the team but it still makes me wobble my head . Like you say, everyone to there own but it's easy for people to sit in silence rather than get up and sing . People that do want a sing song won't because they're surrounded by those that choose not to and therefor don't want to sing on their own.

Like I said, I just don't get that attitude.

And there are many ways to support the team. Singing is just one of them.

So you don't understand that someone might be a tad annoyed if they went to the football and enjoyed a good ol sing song but was surrounded by loads of fans sat in silence with their arms folded ?. Iv been there and I felt like my football attending match experience was ruined by it.

Prob just the same way how someone might be annoyed if they went to the football for a nice little sit down but was surrounded by loads of fans bouncing around . Like I say-suited blocks .

No I don't understand. And I'm certainly not pissed off if anyone around me chooses to sing when I don't want to.

Whether you agree or not is one thing but if you can't get your head around where I'm comin from there is nothing more I can do to explan it to you, so we'll have to leave it at that .

I still don't get it.

After years of discussions with the fans and various groups about improving the atmosphere, the club then acts on a email survey.

And what happens if only a few People turn up?

Where does this leave stand leaders then, and where do the club and the fans go from here?
