Statins

Been on two types.
Had to stop both.
They made me feel terribly nauseous for hours, gave me chronic indigestion and the shits.

I was on them and had prostate cancer so a blood test after revealed very high liver reading. Was sent to specialist and he asked me to stop taking them and my reading came down. They havnt put me on anything else so will see what my next blood test brings regarding cholesterol

My experience is that I get zero side effects but if I don't take them within 1 month my blood test shows the bad cholesterol has risen massively.
However the lowest dose in tablet form does the trick. Incidentally testing for triglycerides IE all other than cholesterol fats in the blood is just as important to healthy blood in n the lipid profile.

Have been on some for a few years for hereditary cholesterol

No side effects of taking them, but only noticed significant improvement in my results over the last 12 months which coincided with me getting into running and eating a much healthier and balanced diet

I have been on them for a few years, I was a bit apprehensive about being on long term meds but they said with my levels it was unlikely a change in diet alone would drop them low enough. I was getting monitored every 4 months or so for liver function etc and everything was ok. They asked me to start taking an additional tablet to reduce levels further and then I seemed to drop off the system and before I knew it, it was about 9 months before my next assessment. When I received the results I had to immediately stop taking them as my liver levels were showing significant damage. I was sent for a scan and everything was fine. I started on a different Statin and everything been fine so far.

About a year after all this, I read an article where they have found that the blood tests taken to check liver functions etc whilst you are on statins can produce highly elevated liver results but it isn’t actually causing damage to your liver, which is exactly what happened to me.

I believe they are reviewing this as it is possibly causing people to come off statins due to phantom results and causes more negative reports around the risk of taking statins.

If your levels are high, I would certainly recommend taking them.
what levels are we talking about here? just for knowledge sharing

Been on them for ages. Pretty low dose mind. No effects. Think theyre one of the most widely used medications and so theres shit loads of data and nothing bad. Also think they're over prescribed but that's another matter
