Alright Blues

Anyone who's travelling to the game and has any questions regarding Bucharest, where to go, what not to do, useful info like nearest metro station to the ground, english football friendly bars, the main drinking areas, which taxi's NOT to get, where to exchange money, best hotels, what to expect etc etc etc ... Please feel free to post on this thread, and I'll do my best to help you.

I'm English and I've been a Blue all my life, but have lived in Bucharest, so apart from our last trip to Timisoara (remember that) - this is the first time we've played in Romania for a few years!

Cheapest direct flights are going to be better for southern based Blues at Luton Airport (3 hours), although KLM, Air France and Lufthansa go from Manchester, but all have 1 change (approx 5 hour journey including change)

One of the safest capital cities in Europe, it will be very hot at this time of year (30c plus) and reasonably friendly people, with many speaking English very well. Take care with taxi from airport, don't get in one with anything OVER 1.69 lei on the door - expect to pay approx 30 lei into City centre (about £7)

The local lager is Ursus and Ciuc, at around 6 lei a pint (£1) but Heineken, Guinness etc available and all the usual KFC, Mcdonalds, Subway etc etc etc if you wish, or some of the local kebabs are nice too, and there's some excellent restaurants, bars in the 'old town' Lipscani (Just ask taxi driver for 'old town' or Piata Unirii (area of old town and name of metro station there too)

There isn't a metro from the airport unfortunately, but once in the city there are many metro stations signified by a blue M sign, and dead easy to use and get around, BUT the metro closes at around 11pm ... Piata Muncii is the closest metro station to the stadium, on the 'yellow line' and about a 10 min walk or 20 minute stagger :)

Don't change any money at the airport, use ATM's or banks (must provide ID if doing this) - couple of good pubs which welcome ex pats, Mojo in the 'old town' and The Dubliner which is further north in the city (you'd pass this area on way to and from airport) both are on metro routes, and most taxi drivers will know where they are.

Again it's a capital city, so traffic can be bad, but they're 2 hours ahead, so a later kick off, hence careful the metro hasn't closed by the time you leave the stadium, but again the honest taxi's are approx 40p a kilometre, so no matter where you are in the city, it shouldn't be too expensive, it's not like getting a bomber from Piccadilly to the Etihad :)

Loads more I could tell you, but probably best people ask if they need to know anything.

Cheers, and for those going, enjoy and safe trip!

Hello. I live in Romania so i will try to help u too. Better use uber, but in case u don't, the safest cab services are SpeedTaxi, Pelicanul and MeridianTaxi.

Hi Cosmin, yes agree with all of that regarding taxi's, for those not familiar with uber, the three firms mentioned are to be trusted, and you'll see loads of them about, all taxi's are generally yellow Dacia Logans.

Smoking indoors was finally banned in March 2016, but for the smokers loads of bars with outdoor seating as it's so hot at this time of year, and it's not unusual to get in a cab, stand in train stations etc and people smoking freely, that reminds me fags are about 12 lei a pack, so about £2.50 - Kent are a decent local brand, similar to ours back home.

Went to Bucharest last year for a weekend and really liked the old town. Plenty of bars in close proximity and places to eat.

Hi all,
I went to a spa hotel last year.
Its directly accross the road from the stadium, Its called Premier palace
https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel...views-Premier_Palace_Hotel_Spa-Bucharest.html

Its cheap and generally a decent hotel, The spa is fairly awesome and has about 4 saunas at different temperatures.
Taxi into Bucherest is super cheap so I wouldn't worry about the hotel being a little out of the city centre.

Not sure, but isn't the game being played at the Arena Nacionala? That's on the east side of Bucharest whilst the Palace Hotel appears to be to the west next to the Stadionul Steaua.

think I will stay in city centre ... either Mercure or Novotel
best places for good local scran?

Question for the locals - is it worth getting tickets to go inside the Palace of Parliament? Looks impressive from the outside, but is there anything inside worth looking at?
