Steaua Bucharest post-match thread

Another thing I noticed but thought it was just coincidence until Pep brought it up in his press conference, was the lack of defenders diving in. At one point Steaua were attacking us and trying to find their way through our massed defensive ranks when I noticed not one player jumped in or went to ground trying to stop the attack.

Pep mentioned in his press conference this was another thing he had brought into training and explained that this was the reason he went mad at Otamendi the one time he went diving to ground for the tackle. At no point did we look like we were going to give away a penalty and we looked a lot more controlled when defending than we have done at any time in the last 3 years.
Bang on.
Been saying for a while that this has been one of our major flaws.
When Kompany returns to the team(even if he remains injury free) he will have to make major adjustments to his game or I fear his time at the club may end sooner than we would like.

Semi related but West Ham drew 1-1 with a Romanian club sitting in 10th, should we go ahead and add a win to our record when we play West Ham????

I hate seeing media and fans trying to downplay opposition. As someone said earlier it's not the clubs or an entire league that's shit, it's Pep's tactics working to perfection or close to it. In 2 games we played a club happy to sit back and defend with 10 and launch the ball for the most part. We also played a club who was at home and wanted to take their chances playing more open and got punished.

There's plenty of evidence of these exact type of results happening at Barca and Bayern. We just have to make sure we tighten up our defense to keep clean sheets again the parked bus types and we will walk away with 1-0's and 2-0's for the most part.

Before the game Steaua were settled well into their season going well, top of their League, undefeated, a couple of very dangerous players (Rromanian Internationals a plenty)and a team we should be respectful of because of their pedigree in the competition, difficult to play against particularly in Romania with a good record against English teams.
After we dismantled them they were a shit Doncaster Rovers according to the press. A bit like Club Brugge were last year in the press remember!
Here see if you can spot the section referring to Brugge as shite - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/34058082

BBC commentary of City game:
"It's hard to read too much tactically with regards to Pep Guardiola in this game as Manchester City won't face many worse sides all season than Steaua Bucharest."
"With all due respect to Romanian football,i very much doubt this team would avoid relegation if they played in the Premier League"
"Steaua are defending like it's the last five minutes of five-a-side and you're just thinking of getting home for a beer."
"I wonder if City will use a few kids next week. Steaua just aren't very good, surely it's a good chance to give them minutes"
"Steaua manager Laurentiu Reghecampf gives his players a team talk on the pitch afterwards. His side were shocking...."

I don't necessarily disagree with commentary facts just the unbalanced nature of the reporting.....am I being a bit touchy?
I also know the performance on Tue wont be any kind of acid test and there are tougher tasks ahead.
On the ITV highlights show Clive Tyldsley came out with the the line " there was more than a hint of offside about that goal" for Nolito's goal. He gave no apology or correction when the replays showed it was onside.
