Steph Houghtons husband has been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease

I knew a great Scottish lad who was only 32 years of age when he was diagnosed with the symptoms. It was a great shock, probably the last time I saw him and he died just over 2 years of pain and suffering.
Truly my heart goes out to Steph and her family.

My wife's nephew was diagnosed around 6-8 months ago and he's really deteriorated recently...

Heart wrenching as they have 2 kids of around 4 and 6 who don't know yet....

There seems to be no justice in this world... SWMBO has a type of cancer and struggles with the mental anguish of "watching and waiting" for it to develop...

While total c***s live to a ripe old age

That's pretty sad as is Stephs husband having it too.

I was just reading abt it, one in every 50'000 develop the condtion each year, the majority with a life expectancy of 3 years. Cruel.

Sue's nephew went to see a specialist at John Radcliffe in Oxford.. the country's leading authority and he said "don't worry, I have people on my books who have lived for 10 years"

He was devastated....

Lost two grandparents and my father-in-law to this awful disease. Heart goes out to Steph and her family...

Terrible news. I hope the club make a real effort to support her and her family through this.

Perhaps a testimonial/fund raiser game?

It's not like these two will be set for life due to their age, careers and relatively low wages in comparison to the guys and the Prem

It's a f***ker of a disease. Colleague died from it last year, life and soul of the party to being hardly able to speak and in a wheelchair in a short space of time. Thoughts with them, hope they have several years of quality life still ahead

it would be good if the club could do some kind of fundraising event for them. It is a **** of a disease with 50% of those diagnosed dead within 2 years and 95% dead after 5 years.
Steph will watch her husband decline from being a professional athlete to someone who cannot walk, bathe himself or even talk. eventually the person cannot swallow or breath. There is no cure, the only thing that is sure is that you will deteriorate. imagine having this or watching your other half with it. It may be the end of two careers rather than just one. I hope the club does something for them.
my heart goes out to them.

Devastating news for the family, i hope they receive all the help and support they need at this time.

I get the impression that ours is the type of club with the type of owners who will ensure that Steph and her family will be well looked after and I suspect they with ensure they get both the financial and emotional support they need.
