Steph Houghtons husband has been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease

Its a dreadful disease. This touching documentary really shows graphically how awful it is:

This is awful. I saw it come up on my Twitter feed this afternoon as a few people commented on it but for some reason it completely passed me by that he was married to Steph Houghton. I just thought it was a classy gesture by the club when they tweeted about the thoughts and support they are offering.

It’s a death sentence hanging over the poor lad, truly devastating and how people cope with that I don’t know. Really cruel at 29 years old, can only hang your hat on medical science coming up with something, sad beyond belief.

A colleagues mother just died of this 2 weeks ago, she was at the age where her life had been lived & the suffering was over quickly but it devastated my mate what this did to her n such a short time.

I’m certain the club will be looking to help Steph & her hubby as it’s the right thing to do.

Shocking news and only 29 didn’t realise motor neurone struck people so young or has he just been very unlucky, another disease which I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy...

Awful news for them both. Hope they both enjoy all the time they have together, let’s hope he is comfortable.

Just catching up on this news & thread. That really is an absolute tragedy to read about, at his age with 2 young ‘uns. As @Damocles points out, they won’t be ‘set up for life’ based on their incomes from the sport. For Steph to have to come out and play could be pretty stressful - I’d hope the club will offer her some compassionate leave if she wants it.

Terrible to hear. I saw her say that her goal was for Ste but I didn’t know the extent of the issue. In America this is often referred to as “Lou Gehrig’s disease” since it ended his baseball career — he was one of the best players of all time. He died less than two years after it forced him to retire.

Joining in the chorus of folks saying that I hope City does something for them. I’ve no doubt they will assist in some capacity with his medical care but they’ll need a lot more than that to get through this.
