Sterling’s contract - three year extension confirmed

Real Madrid have supposedly stepped up their interest today.

Surely that’s his agent putting pressure on City on a day when his stock is as high as it’s ever been.
No that's the papers taking the negative route again, after scoring 2 goals for England, and making it a story that isn't there. Until there is a bid on the table I wouldn't believe anything this rag loving media have to say.

City have invested a lot of time, effort and money into Sterling to help him make the most of his ability - for that reason I cannot see him walking out of the door for nothing

I don’t think it’s necessarily money, more about status. He’s scoring goals for fun and wants to be paid accordingly, fair enough - where this falls down is if he goes to Real Madrid but the system doesn’t suit and/or he doesn’t get the coaching like Guardiola and Rodgers gave him. If he goes there and is given the Hodgson/Pelligrini approach his stock could fall very quickly

If I was advising him, I’d tell him to sign and stay a few more years to get a little more experience, confidence and status so he could ride out any settling in issues that he may encounter at Real Madrid

No-one knows what is going on,what he wants to do or what money he is asking for, your inclination is to assume the worst in him as you always do,we have and are letting plenty run their contracts down but this won't happen with a 23 yr old as he is too valuable so that won't happen so put that stick away,it will get sorted one way or another and life will go on

No, I think what has happened here is what you are accusing me of. You are assuming the worst in me, I am not for one second saying he is running his contract down. ANOTHER poster asked the question how would we feel if he ran his contract down and left. Many people gave their opinions on it with quite a few agreeing with me. We have had irrelevant players in the past run their contracts down, not first team regulars who if they want to leave would command a very good sum of money for the club. Try reading what I put if you want to chip in.

there is a difference between just wanting to leave and running a contract down. Morally for me it is wrong for anyone to do that, like I said it wouldn't harm him in the slightest to sign a new deal (whilst getting paid more) keep playing as well as he is and then letting someone buy him. What he wants to do is leave the club, bagging a huge signing on fee and leaving us without a penny for him and having to spend a fortune to replace him. All of course if he does run down his contract by the way.

If you can accept that behaviour from someone, shafting the club you love and support then fair enough.

Just to clarify, this was what TomFC said and it's something most would agree with. There seems to some misunderstanding as to what was originally said but in my opinion, anyone wouilf understand these concerns.

After spending the last few years developing Sterling into the player he is today, it would be a kick in the teeth to watch him leave for nothing. You're allowed to leave and explore other options but I think that after everything the club has done for him, they'd expect him to sign a deal and make sure the club gets something in return in the event that he leaves.

What I, you or any other fan value him at is totally irrelevant. The club will know exactly what they value him at and that will be the basis of discussion around his contract.

I have no idea what he earns today other than what has been posted on here

NB, I think B Silva is our most improved player and at least as influential

Mossside It's interesting that you appear to have an opinion on everyone else's opinion but can't offer any opinion yourself and contribute to the debate? That's all this is, just a forum for blues to offer opinions is it not? Yet whenever you enter a debate you always seem to have a bit of an issue with people giving their opinion on something that is cleary very important to them and us all?

if I was a player and knew I could get a fucking huge signing on fee for not signing a new contract I would,he doesn't support city so its business ,
however,if I played for city then I would do it for free just so I could give the vs to the bluemoon booboy crowd when I scored a derby day hattrick :)

But the fact remains not many players do it, certainly not high profile first team regulars who then walk on a free. If it was about the huge signing on fee then morally he has everything wrong doesn't he. It isn't like he has fell out with City, not like we are plodding on not winning anything. It isn't like his own game hasn't improved drastically whilst playing week in week out with fantastic players. There isn't one decent reason why it would be acceptable for him to run his contract down other than people saying "he can". Oh that's fine then, lets offer no one a new contract, let everyone leave for free and pay huge sums to replace them. Seems perfect for us.

In today's market what is Sterling worth salary wise! £200k, £250k or £300k a week?
If he leaves, what would it cost to replace him?
Sterling is in prime position to hold City to ransom, but on the other side of things, if he doesn't sign a deal before say end Jan, with our squad we can afford to bench him. Or if a big foreign club comes in with a £100M+ offer we accept and move on

It does seem fucking insane to me that a player doesn't believe £10M a year in wages plus whatever sponsorship for boots etc isn't enough
I understand that these are the elite in a highly paid profession and they're only at their peak earning potential for eight years or so, but fucking hell!

I don't believe it's a case of them not believing it's enough, more about if he's getting X then I want Y, more an ego thing than anything else.
