Sterling’s contract - three year extension confirmed

You don't know that Sterling is, nobody actually knows if any negotiations are going on, only what a few newspapers report, presumably driven by his agent.

Its only £39m if you believe the BBC, either way its ridiculous, for a player that the manager has spent most of the last 2 years slating.

Go on then I will repeat myself. My posts were all replies to someone saying if he was running his contract down. I don't think he was, someone then tried to compare what he is doing to long term, loyal players who have signed several extensions with us. I don't believe the papers, be that if they are saying he is staying or going.

If he does go he’d be the first proper first teamer since the takeover who’s left against our wishes

Shame really longer it drags out the more it looks like he will leave

Suppose we can’t complain he did the same at Liverpool to come us, except he’s been better behaved, no interviews or agent gobbing it off.

Would think we will pull out all the stops to try and get it done though he’s worth more to us than Madrid or Barca as he’s HG

Yeah, it's a pretty remarkable record we have of retaining our top players, certainly compared to domestic rivals who have seen players cherry picked by the likes of Madrid and Barcelona.

Really hope he can get him tied down to a long-term deal soon. Would be pretty gutted if he left with his best years ahead of him.

I think we’re fast approaching the point of no return. After the way Milner strung us along, the club must surely know it has to crap or get off the pot before the summer. We either offer him what he wants, or something close to it, or we lose not only a player whose form is such that it would cost at least £80m to replace him (and that’s if we’re lucky), but one who’s English as well, and who knows what bullshit lies instore post=Brexit in respect of home grown numbers. The way he’s been playing this season, Sterling’s got to be in the £80-90m bracket, if not more, particularly as he’s clearly been working hard on putting his foot through the ball in front of goal and has developed a close to immaculate first touch under pressure. He’s the most improved player in the Premier League over the last 12 months, and potential suitors know they will have us over a barrel as regards the asking price if we let the matter go on much longer. This isn’t like Arsenal and Sanchez, where the player was close to 30. Sterling could easily call any bluff about letting him rot in the reserves for a year, as he’s only 23, and he’s already shown his willingness to play hardball at Liverpool.
Hopefully the support he’s had from the fans in the face of unrelenting media hostility will resonate on a personal level, but I wouldn’t gamble on it. Sounds obvious, but he either signs or we flog him, probably for less than he’s worth, given that we’d be talking about June rather than January, based on how close the league is looking right now. In a way, I don’t think it will come down exclusively to numbers, but also to whether he regards a faltering Madrid as an unmissable opportunity or not, and that’s something that’s out of our control. Personally, unless what he’s asking is so ridiculous and would throw a Sanchez style hand grenade under the club’s entire wage structure, I’d bite the bullet and pay it, and the sooner the better.

Great post mate.

If he lets the supposed grief from the media determine if he chooses a move to Madrid, he best make sure he hits the ground running over there. Hostility from fans and the media over will make the supposed stick he gets over here look like fluffy little kittens.
I’m presuming he will take this into account.

I personally think he will stay but if he doesn’t, he’s replaceable in a way Aguero wouldn’t be had he made a move away earlier.

I take your point but there's nothing 'supposed' about the stick he gets, it's very real.

As the post above mentions, your use of the word 'supposed' is odd as the unwarranted extra attention and criticism he receives is very real, and very obvious.
