Sterling’s contract - three year extension confirmed

Thing is, he had eight months left on his contract, so United were backed into a corner.

Shows what a dicey game it is running down contracts.

Didn’t they have the option to automatically extend it by 12 months, or had they already done that?

Either way, it’s not been great planning by United to allow so many players to get close to the end of their contracts at once.

Did that back in January, so final year.

They have 12 month options on De Gea, Martial, Smalling and Jones to enforce in the next couple months.

As things stand, Mata and Herrera are free to talk to other clubs in January.

United may have had the foresight to insert these options but all they have done is use them as a tool to avoid paying out bigger salaries or renewing deals at appropriate times, pissing off a lot of the squad in the process.

Shaw is still young, so their reasoning is that they can't afford to let him walk and would rather pay him more now and still have the ability to fuck him off next summer or whether for a fee.

Fellaini also called their bluff, leaving it until the final week.

United now paying him £170k a week After tax!! !!

That’s alright, it’s a reference to another comment I made in another thread, so it’s tenuous at best.

I am just trying to bring levity to the proceedings.

After all, Raheem’s contract situation is not a life or death situation, no matter what the Daily Mail may say. ;-)
Phew i thought was being thick..oh wait

Perhaps an opinion not shared by many, but I would take Mata on a free (or lower transfer fee) in a heartbeat.

As much as I dislike that squad, there are a few bargains (Smalling, Jones, and Herrera excepted) to be had from it depending on how those contract negotiations progress.

Luckily, gone are the days where we were getting fleeced for decent players we were attempting to shift (though, it was not that long ago, to be fair).

I would be in complete agreement, Mata would be a decent option. Tore it up at Chelsea.

Foden deserves his shot though.

Thing is if he is on 190k a week what club is going to pay a fee to the rags plus at least match those wages? Shaw won’t be going anywhere anytime soon.
