So essentially what you're saying is that you dont believe the paper reports that we matched draxlers buyout clause but you do believe the paper reports of how much we are supposing paying for jovetic. You cant have it both ways you cant use the papers to support one argument and the dismiss them to support another.

Not really, I never saw those reports. Even if the reports are true there are 5+ players I would still pick over Jovetic.

@thenabster,

You obviously missed this quote from Della Vale then when you were scouting?

"We won't go down from our 30 million euro demand and won't wait much longer."

Btw he doesn't strictly play in the centre, yet another example that you haven't seen him play much, if at all.

Kolarov has played as a left winger and a left midfielder. Is he a left winger?

Garcia has played as a central defender, does that make him good at it?

-- Thu Jul 11, 2013 9:59 am --

To the people that mentioned Kevin De Bryune, he might want to stick with Chelsea but he'll get a rude awakening if he expects to be anything more than an impact sub.

His play reminds me of Adam Johnson with better class and technique.

sounds a good buy if so. I think what we do need this season are players with better attitude, I think that's where tixi is heading. imo cavani has the talent and attitude but that ship has sailed so we move on.

Where does it say we matched his buyout clause. If we listened tot the papers we matched the buyout clause of 50 players. I really doubt we ever actually bid for him.

I'm pretty sure we never bid 34m for Draxler. I'm pretty sure we never even inquired for him. Anyway, I would rather pay 34m for Draxler than pay 30m for Jovetic. Same thing goes with Lamela.

Who says we're paying 30million? ( € or £ btw? )

I've read reports that range between 27m pounds to 32m pounds. I'll just go with the average for now.

Lamela, Draxler and Kevin de bruyne are as available as Jovetic. We would pay about the same price for Draxler, Jovetic and Lamela. So what's the point?

If you seriously think that Chelsea would sell de Bruyne to us, you need your head examining - that is not going to happen, so to us (or any other team in the Premier League, I would wager) de Bruyne is unavailable.

Onto Draxler - we would quite simply not pay the same price for him, as his release clause is about 10 million more than what we're rumoured to be paying for Jovetic. Add to that the fact that this clause has allegedly already been met but a couple of Clubs (one of which happens to be us), and the player has turned the offers down, indicated that Draxler is unavailable too.

Which leaves us with just Lamela from your list - who I think is both available, and a better player than Jovetic (marginally at the moment, but with greater potential I would say). However he plays as a right sided forward/winger at Roma, and we have just bought Navas to fill that exact same role, plus have Aguero who is very much a right footed striker. Milner is also right footed. We need balance to the side, and there is no sense in stockpiling players who all want to play in the same position - this is one of the reasons Arsenal have been so shit for so long!

The only players who are comfortable playing on the left of our attack are Silva, Nasri and Sinclair - and Silva is very much our central attacking force (even more so now Tevez has gone). Its no coincidence that both Negredo and Jovetic have played most of their careers on the left of an attacking line-up.

Its about balance, and building a team - not just buying a load of amazing players irrespective of where on the pitch they are best suited to playing!

Jovetic doesn't play on the left of the attack. He strictly plays in the middle behind a striker. Lamela is a right footed forward/winger that is fast. He would have a greater impact on the left than Jovetic.

With that in mind, draw me your lineup of how we'll look with Jovetic in the squad.

He doesn't 'strictly' play behind the striker - he either plays on the left of the attack, or behind the striker - therefore when he has a side preference (a side of pitch on which he's used to playing), its on the left. If you'd have watched him play more than a couple of games, you would know this - but that's cool - like you say, he isn't someone you've watched much in the past.

Lamela always plays on the right, therefore would be a piss poor choice to play on the left of our attack as he's never played there before in his career.

We're getting into Keegan territory here, of liking a player, and wanting him in your side, so playing him out of position when there are options available who might not be quite as good overall, but are much better in that specific position.

Jovetic is similar to Nasri, and indeed to Isco, in as much as he is excellent playing on the left side of the attack, and having an impact from that position. Lamela would be a square peg in a round hole - which would make him a shit buy for us, and would be very bad football management all round!

And I'm not going to get into drawing line-ups, as its a sure fire way to instantly turn a thread into a load of tedious FM nonsense, and kill it stone dead - I'm sure you can understand from my argument where I think he should play on the pitch.

Any road - forums are about differences of opinion - I happen to think that no-one on your list who is available to us would be better suited to the role on the pitch we are trying to fill than Jovetic. You don't agree. That's fine - we'll agree to disagree

Pretty much man. We'll agree to disagree.
