Problem is only 11 players can play....so its all good saying we should buy this and that, but who's going? The easy answer is Dzeko, but Dzeko is the only striker who offers areal threat and he's a good option to have. Jovetic is similar to Aguero and Tevez, just nowhere near as good. Right now there's a great mixtures of the 4 strikers and thats a good thing, you dont want 4 strikers who all have the same skill set

Jovetic is versatile and Mancini might not even intend to play him up front if he signs him, even though he is playing there right now for Fiorentina. He has been excellent as a second striker also and has played very well when pushed out wide. Let's not forget that besides Dzeko probably going next summer, Tevez will only have one year left on his deal and despite his posturing it is probably unlikely he will stay any longer than his current contract, so the club will be making preparations for the future. Jovetic from what I have seen also has great vision, something often missing in our squad when Silva is missing or out of form. I think if we signed him Mancini might use him as an attacking playmaker more than a striker, possibly the same role he had in mind for Hazard who we almost signed.

He is both exceptional and versatile. Can lead the line, play one off or wide left or right. He has pace, great technical ability and knows where the net is. If this is true, it's a masterstroke.

£12million, are the Daily Star that out of touch really? Double it and we might be closer to what Fiorentina want for him.

His value has halved since he cut his barnet

In the headline they reckon 12 quid, now that's cheap.

"Only" 60k per week as well, having a proper laugh with that piece of shit article.

he's a forward mate...like del piero. this is not FM where you can just use players where ever you want. Same thing with Nasri where some people think he's a wide man when he's clearly a central player who can do a job out wide. What we need is world class wide man, not another central player who's versatile enough to do a job out there

Re: Jovetic

I agree with tony nasri and silva can both do the job out wide but they are both at their best centrally, probably more so nasri I think but being able to play a wide man who is first and foremost a wide man would be nice but I really don't understand jovetic signing unless we have plans to offload dzeko for a reasonable fee

Re: Jovetic

Wouldn't surprise me if good relations have been built between the clubs following the Nastasic transfer, which seemed to have been wrapped up comparatively quickly compared to some of our negotiations with Italian clubs

He's 22. At 22 a very good player has the potential to become a great one. Kompany wasn't exceptional when we signed him. Neither were the likes of tranny or prozzy shagger for the rags, henry, vieira + rvp for arsenal etc...

Not seen much of him myself but 1 in 2 at itnernational level and 1 in 3 for in serie a is pretty impressive for a 22 year old lad. If he's quick then good, if he can beat a man then we might be on to a winner. Either way he seems a very good player

Jovetic confirms City snub
Montenegrin rejected Man City and Juventus

Fiorentina star Stevan Jovetic has confirmed that he turned down the chance to join Manchester City this summer.

The Montenegrin forward was also chased by Italian champions Juventus but he stayed loyal to the Viola.

The 22-year-old is one of the most sought after players in Europe, but he insists he has no intentions of turning his back on the Florence outfit.

Asked about City, he told Gazzetta dello Sport: "I stopped those negotiations.

"When Manchester City came forward with strength, I had already decided to stay in Florence.

"Am I happy to still be here? Absolutely and I have no regrets.

"The objective here is to get back into Europe and I won't leave here until this club is competing at the levels it should be."

No need to be patronising, especially as I don't play Football Manager or any game like that. Versatile players do exist and he is one. I saw him play for Fiorentina various times last season and he often played in a 4-2-3-1 behind Gilardino (lone striker) in a three. In another game he played up front in a 3-5-2. Now that Gilardino has left he seems to be playing as a lone striker but they have signed Luca Toni who has yet to make his debut so again he could be moved around.

So no, it's not Football Manager but I've watched enough Fiorentina to know that Jovetic can be moved around with effect and this is something Mancini likes in his players, and probably one of the reasons Jovetic appeals to him. I saw him play on the left but like Nasri it did not seem his ideal position, however he looked more effective there than Nasri does when forced out wide for us. Now I can't say I watch every Fiorentina match so just checked and this is the formation Fiorentina played more than any other last season:

Keep in mind that Mancini wanted Hazard badly and Hazard is not at his best as a winger so it's entirely plausible that Mancini wants someone else to play an central attacking midfield role, especially one who can score goals like Jovetic.

That's not true.. there were good, average or below average players in each champions side since forever..

O'Shea, Gibson, Brown, Chicharito, Fletcher etc, etc are certainly not BEST ones, just to name few from one team only.

Fletcher is far from average. hernandez is a goal poacher....he's nothing like other United strikers. Jovetic is very similar to tevez and Aguero. dzeko offers something different and you need to have different type of qualities in your squad. A squad full of Silvas will not win the league, neither will a squad full of de Jongs. jovetic is very similar to what we already have

none of Chicharito/Fletcher are BEST as TC said.. you simply can not have squad full of best/top names, it doesn't work like that.

You are right, but you don't spend a lot of money on players who will not improve the starting eleven.

There is a price for SQUAD players and there is another price for starting eleven players IMO.

I don't know alot about Jovetic, and thats why I said based on the reported price, he is welcome if he is EXCEPTIONAL.

It is really hard to find an upgrade for the current attacking 4 ( Nasri, Aguero,Tevez,Silva).
