Always sad when any ex player(or anyone for that matter)passes away, but always feels a touch more sad when it's a lifelong blue. Sleep easy Steve. CTWD

That's really sad news
I worked with one of his sons back in the 80's and spent a lovely evening round at his house chatting with Steve and his wife whilst drinking home brewed beer. This was after John Bond had sacked him and Steve was back in the country during the Icelandic winter break

He and his wife were both into Astrology (think he wrote a book about it)
I thought it was a load of horseshit and said to Steve and his wife "OK then, what star sign am I?"
They both replied in unison "Aquarius" which i am
"How do you know that?" I asked
"Easy. Tallest star sign" was the answer
I'm 6ft 4
So that explains why my sister, who was born on Valentine’s Day, is 5 foot zilch.

RIP Steve.
I did works experience down at the Platt Lane training ground back in the early 90s. He was a great bloke.
Thoughts are with his family and friends.

As I said, i believe astrology is nonsense, Steve and his wife didn't
Perhaps if your sister had met them they would have got her star sign wrong

All I've posted is, what i think, is an interesting story of my short time in their very warm company

Obviously never saw him play, but he used to do some coaching at a primary school round our way in the late 80s/early 90s. Every week he’d walk past where a group of us secondary school kids were hanging out at lunch time, and always had a smile and a wave even though we were generally being dickheads, in the way teenagers can. Seemed like a lovely guy.

Always sad when ex players pass away, condolences to Steve’s family.

Sad news. Remember him around Platt Lane when I was training there back in the 80s - also used to play footy with his son Ben in the 90s/00s who I also believe has now sadly passed away too.

The family were true Blues who loved the club. RIP Steve - sending condolences to his family and friends
Knew Ben and played footy and tennis with him too. Lovely lad. Parrs Wood, Old Bedes, Maine Rd.
RIP father and son. V sad news.

Saw Steve Fleet in goal a couple of times when Bert was injured, which wasn't often, but the game that still sticks in my mind was a game at Maine Road v The Cheating Shitehawks from Old Trafford. Alex Dawson went to meet a cross, couldn't get his head on it, but he swung his arm and it looped into the net. The only one who didn't see it was the whistling wanker! God rest yer bones. Steve.

Ben was running the Rushford Park Sports Ground on Slade Lane - formerly Gorton Eagles I think - when I used to play against him in the late 90s in our regular Thursday night games on the Astro Turf. Decent touch on the ball and a good player.

I grew up in Heaton Mersey but was born in Withington, so the places quoted here are all local to me up until the 00s. The Maine Road lads used to always be in The Griffin on Thurs - Sunday, with Derek sending round the football card or other ways of making money for the club. In those days all the hierarchy at Maine Road were City daft, even when our beloved club itself was down the crapper.

Very sorry. Bert was out for a while after the cup final of '56 and, if I remember well, his first deputy was a lad called Savage before Steve came in. I saw Steve a few times and then on a misty day in the winter of 1957 we had a home game to Wolves, challenging at the top of the table. City were brilliant and though Wolves scored first City moved into a 3-1 lead before Wolves polished up their more "traditional" game of "hard" tackling and high crosses into the box. The hard tackling had Bobby Johnson carried off and refusing to shake the hand of his "tackler" and Steve Fleet supposed to catch the ball in both hands while one, or more, Wolves "challenged" for the ball. In the end we lost 4-3 to "all pile in goals". Most certainly no fault of Steve's who showed that he certainly never lacked for courage or heart. So hard to believe that it's all nearly 70 years ago. RIP Steve.

I’m so saddened to hear the passing of Steve -I owed him so much as he gave me my first break at Stockport County after he had been scouting me for awhile - he was so kind and helpful and I moved south , lost touch and then we met when he was running the training ground at Platt Fields - he made me so welcome there and he was truly a super human being - everyone I spoke with at City had only good words to say about him
RIP Steve

Great days - remember the Griffin with great fondness - Chris Shields, Steve Turner et al.
