Steve Kean : Thick skinned or self-delusional ?

Having watched the Blackburn v Wigan game on Monday night I don't think that in all my years following football I've witnessed such a long and vicious show of dissent towards Owners and Manager during the course of a match.

I can't criticise Steve Kean for taking the Blackburn job in the first place - he obviously had faith in his own ability. Up to a point I wouldn't even criticise him for hanging on to the job and wait for the pay-off of being sacked.

What I can't for the life of me understand is why he has continued to put up with such groundswell of unpopularity when the axe didn't fall. To make it even more perplexing he's now saying that he has no intention of resigning and he's looking forward to leading Blackburn back into the PL.

Surely there comes a point when a Manager must consider the effect that things are having on his own credibility and the general well-being of his family.
When it's revealed that a Senior Club Executive believed that the Manager has no future with the club then things have gone beyond the point of no return.

Steve Kean always appears to be an honourable man when interviewed. I think that most Managers would have negotiated a mutually agreeable parting of the ways by now, so perhaps he's not quite so honourable after all. Or maybe Venky's have already told him that if he walks he gets nothing. Even that surely can't be worth having to endure such unpopularity in a relatively small place like Blackburn

When I think back to all the bad times we have suffered as City supporters, and the years of mis-management, I have to feel sorry for the Blackburn fans. They've watched their Club being ripped apart by Owners who seem to have little understanding, and a Manager who hasn't been up to the job but is apparently not prepared to admit it.

Exactly, Squirtyflower, but under normal circumstances and as suggested in my post. I really think that it's gone way past that at Blackburn, don't you ?

If he leaves now he will never be given another managers job again.

I would say thick skinned. Cant believe the hatred towards the guy, I can understand Venkys and wanting Kean sacked but saying they want him dead? what on earth

Any manager believes they can turn around a club whether there good enough or not

... either way, silly to resign as if you get sacked you win the lottery

I think it's highly unlikely he'll get another Manager's job anyway. Better to negotiate a deal with Venky's (if he can) and walk whilst he's got some dignity left, IMO.

I feel sorry for Blackburn supporters having this clown hang on for dear life.

No doubt he'll put it all back on the supporters, letting it slip again that he needs a bodyguard around Blackburn (number of times he's been attacked or threatened =0).

Honest to god some cant win, i had hoped they would stay up just to see their fans faces when he was given manager of the season

I don't know his personal circumstances, but I assume he has a mortgage, bills to pay, dependents to feed and clothe
So why should he 'give up his rights' to a pay off with no job in the offing?

He sounds like a contestant from the Apprentice, or Master Chef. Lots of shite quotes wrapped up in a dirty nappy. He just doesn't cut it.

I'm not suggesting he should cut off his nose to spite his face, especially with bills to pay. Usually in these situations there's some sort of pay-off for a mutual parting of the ways. Maybe not with Venky's.

What I can't understand despite this why he's prepared to put up with it all. I don't think I've ever seen such a level of hatred towards a Manager - especially one who as I said in my OP seems to be an honourable man. It must be affecting his home life big-time.

If he led them back to the premier league (unlikely I know) then shirley he would be in with a shout of another job. Thats just my opinion anyway

I'm sure you're right, I bet it's having an effect on his health too

But the drive to feed the family can be greater still
Maybe he's never been able to broach someone about a deal and a release from his contract
On the other hand he keeps getting a larger pay-out the longer he holds on, unless they go into administration

Didn`t we have a Blackburn fan on Blue Moon some months ago telling us why Kean will never get the boot ??
I will use my words carefully, but it had something to do with the Owners and money being transferred from A to B,of which Keen was aware off. ALLEGEDLY !!

Very close to the truth I think. Some very dodgy deals going on at Blackburn. Jack Walker will be spinning in his grave.

We did with a link to a sheff wednesday site with an article that was withdrawn about allegations that he was a front for illegal activity.

The deputy chief exec was sacked today for calling for him to be removed. Which made me think there could be something in it.

EDIT:

Link is here from a swansea site with someone claiming to be part of the club so take it with a pinch of salt.

That's a good point SF. Administration can't be ruled out - it's happened to bigger clubs than Blackburn. Almost happened to us a few years ago.

He's virtually unsackable.
