Steve Wright DJ RIP

You just couldn't dislike this guy. He always seemed to be on the radio since I can remember from the 80s. Just had a nice easy going way about him. I remember being at school and a teacher put his sad story thing on the radio in the staff room. I was there stood facing the corner where I could be watched. Anyway, this woman met a bloke from Cyprus or somewhere, they fell in love, he died on his way to start a life in England. On hearing this I started laughing and said to a teacher, 'that's so made up'. I then got another dinner time detention for my outburst. RIP In heaven, he'll be the main DJ on Top of the Pops his clogs. RIP

No, not really. Perhaps a little more, but not much more than when anybody I don't personally know dies.

Now, my mother, my best mate, my cousin and our five dogs, absolutely.
I can understand where your coming from. I'm not into contagious grief myself. But offering condolences on a forum or stating that it's a sad loss as you really liked what that person did in his or her life is not quite the same as showing grief when someone close to you passes?

My point isn't that though. There are people considering lifestyle changes etc due to a celebrities death or writing with a tone that this has had a fundamental effect on them.

I totally understand people reminiscing about the part this person played in their life at a particular time or how much they enjoyed his shows, but at the end of the day, he was just a celebrity they personally didn't know or even met.

Richard Wright was a member of a band that I adore and his death at 65 was disappointing news. He was far too young and the group would never have a chance to reunite in that form again. That's it, very disappointing, but not to grieve over or get upset about. He was a musician whose music I liked, I didn't know him and never met him.

It’s more likely to be age related and a realisation of their own mortality than grieving a loss.

The death of a person the same age as you always hits closer to the bone, especially if you know you could be in better shape.

I could. I thought he was a prick and so did other BM posters

Along with Gary Davies and Simon Bates he made the work day unbearable with wonderful radio one blasting through the work place speakers all day playing REO Speedwagon and Styx and similar shite all day.
But clearly appealed to the masses.
69 is me in 8 years time so scary......

RIP
Just 4 for me :-(

Used to like him on the radio.
But over the last few years this serious jockin thing was awful.
Still sad news he's died.
