Just watching Close Encounters and it got me thinking which are his best films?(as director)

Had a good long think and for me they are

1. Jaws
2. Raiders Of The Lost Ark
3. Close Encounters Of The Third Kind

What do you reckon?

1. Indiana jones and the last crusade
2. Saving private Ryan
3. Munich or Amistad or The color purple or Schindlers list

Sugarland Express is the only one which indicates he is human. The rest are disposable, efficient, vapid. And he's getting worse. Only my opinion.

1/ Jaws
2/ E.T
3/ Duel

Duel is a genuine arthouse masterpiece.

E.T is second only to The Wizard of Oz as the greaest family film of all time.

Jaws spawned the blockbuster movie. And yet has never been surpassed because of the richly drawn charcterisation of the protagonists (which you just dont see in modern-day blockbusters) and the widespread fear...no, hysteria...it created.

Spielberg can be incredibly twee and sometimes he suffers with his endings. But he is up there with Hitchcock for pacing genuine drama and suspense.

What I didn't realise until tonight but the sound of the truck going over the cliff in Duel was used in the Jaws film.

1/Schindler's List
2/Saving Private Ryan
3/E.T

E.T for its family entertainment value, all round good film, and the two films I chose above E.T for their historical importance and impact on movie viewers.
I mean who can forget the opening beach scenes in SPR? the bullets dashing through the water, in 1998 that was real for me.
