Steven Spielberg Films

Just watching a documentary on him at the moment. He's one driven individual. But by God, he's turned out a lot of stunning films. Whatever about claims of him being the greatest director ever (which purists would probably turn their nose up at), he has to be the most successful (in terms of box office).
Football version of pep.

Close Encounters is one of my top ten films. Yes, the SFX are a bit clunky compared to the modern day. But I think that's what gives it it's charm. Dreyfuss is outstanding in it. Ditto Melinda Dillon (Gillian Guiler).

My comment re the purists possibly not seeing him as the greatest is based purely on my suspicion that they'd see Ford, Hitchcock, Kubrick, Coppola etc as making more "credible", less commercial films.
I think the likes of Kubrick and Hitchcock should be in the conversation, but Spielberg's longevity and breadth of work is what sets him apart. Even lesser know films like Minority Report and Munich are classics.
