Stockport's problems stem from the time of Brian Kennedy's ownership. He invested around £4m in the club but supposedly got fed up after he couldn't see any chance of making a return on that. So he sold Edgeley Park to Sale Sharks, leaving Stockport with no assets and heavy debts.

They were bought out by their supporters but it no looks like they will have to sell the club to survive. They've been trying to find a way to buy the ground but for one reason or another, it hasn't happened yet. There are quite a few really good people involved but sadly, we've only seen the nobs on here.

He did not sell the ground to Sale, he already owned both the ground and Sale, that was the reason for buying County.

The trust started on an even keel.

The trust started on an even keel but with a ground leasing agreement and other financial arrangements that crippled them. From people in the know, BK basically set it all up to recoup his money in the short term whatever the consequences for the sustainability of the football club.

Going bust is actually good news for the club - it means that the two consortia interested in the club can now act. Neither of them wanted to take on the existing debts, neither of them wanted to take over a relegated club and neither of them wanted a 10 point deduction next season.

They were very lucky to reach a point where it was almost impossible to be relegated (due only to goal difference) and allow them to take the points hit. If they had tried to survive through the summer there would probably be no buyers and no football in Stockport.
