Stoke (A) Post Match thread

After the game and Manure will be offered to form a guard of honour (LOL) , we will also be able to do the rounds again at our next home game officially.
Last home game for the trophy presentation, isn't it?

Another masterclass from the team, especially Dave - like a fine wine he gets better with age.

Fair play to some guys on the oatcake calling out a member for historical numbers. I'll miss Stoke away if they go down.

Just checked it. I think they are being a bit hard on themselves tbh. They hustled as best they could with it taking an almost inch perfect bit of play between 3 players to break them down. The prem is a tough league, 2 wins on the bounce see's them knocking around mid table, it is that tight.

All things considered they had a go when they could and only lost by 2 goals. We have done more damage to better first teams than Stoke so they can't be to down on themselves for that loss.

A brilliantly devastating performance from front to back. As I've said from his 2nd season here, David Silva is one of the 2 best City players in our history along with Yaya. But taking a look at their respective legacies, that accolade has now got to solely go to David Silva.

It's always baffled me when opposition fans mention KDB & Aguero as our best current player, but when asked most City fans will say either Yaya or Silva. Tonight David Silva showed why he is not only the best player in our history, he also showed why he is the best player in the PL & ranks alongside Scholes, Cantona, Giggs, Henry, Vieira, Ronaldo, Bergkamp, Gerrard & Lampard as the very best this league has ever seen.

He is the consummate professional & how he is used now shows how criminal it was of our previous incumbent to continuosly maroon him out on the left wing.

Tonight was a very professional performance & how reassuring it was to see Captain Komps leading from the front by example. It's just a pity I can't place my faith in him because who knows when he'll break down again.

We have 8 games to go & we need to keep going right until the end to give this season & Guardiola the ending they both deserves.

Pep has spoken in dispatches of staying here for 10 years. Soriano has spoken of how he, Begiristain & Guardiola are trusted to do as they believe best by Khaldoon & Sheikh Mansour. As such, all three men have the autonomy & support to work as they wish, so in that respect I hope they all sign for the long term.

Manchester City Football Club deserves Pep Guardiola, Ferran Soriano & Txiki Begiristain & all three men deserve Manchester City. Tonight has yet again proved this...

Some members of the press will vote for Silva purely because of a belief that voting for the less obvious and more subtlety talented player somehow makes them sound more knowledgeable. Still think KDB will get it though. There's little in it for me. Both dreamy as fuck.
POTY awards bother me little. However, I can't see past Kane or Salah, purely based on the fact they don't play for City.

Agreed..

imo David Silva is the greatest player to ever wear our shirt. When he decides to leave the game, I really hope our club has something special planned for him. He continues to be the ultimate professional.
Stoke were actually better than some of the other top 6 to play us. They defended tight and denied us space and time although we never looked like we were out of second gear. I don’t think they’ll survive even though they just need a couple of wins to lift them.
Hopefully Nico will recover quickly, Gabby was a real pest and is just getting his eye in for the final push.
Toffees will make it difficult for us as usual but we certainly have the momentum and desire to win that & then I would love for us to take the rags apart to seal the season with VK,Merlin & Kun all scoring.

Great performance, such a joy to watch the maturity and control we have.
Wonderful goals, the 3 passes leading up to each were perfect.
Come on City.

That was a good game for us, I thought that while we were always comfortable, there'll be loads of stuff for individual players to work on in their warm weather break because our attacks seemed to follow similar patterns repeatedly there were some really obvious things that kept happening which could be fixed.
That's the scary thing about this team - we're already miles ahead of every other English team and yet there's still a lot of low hanging fruit.

Not sure about all this second gear stuff. I heard it after Chelsea, Arse (twice) and again tonight and after loads of games earlier in the season.
Pep must be a bloody awful manager if we play so many games in "second gear". I think it's more a case of us having a style of play that looks fairly relaxed but is still extremely effective. We don't run around aimlessly like blue-arsed flies just for the fun of it, rather we have players making intelligent runs which are only appreciated if the pass is made.
As for tonight; the fans were brilliant, it was bloody cold, and it took half an hour to get out of the car park.
Burger was above average for an away game.
Stoke fans boo all visiting teams as their own team give them nothing to cheer about.
On the pitch David was excellent, Butland made a few good saves and we were never in any real danger.
First time this season I've heard City fans singing "We're gonna win the league", but as a mate of mine said; fans of every other club have been saying it for months.

loved the insight that other managers will say it's down to the oil money rather than tell their owners "Pep's a better coach than I am".

And the other clip of Kompany saying Pep called him over to tell him how Crouch would play. "Pep's not been in the Premier League long".

At the final whistle the Stoke players must have thought "thank fuck for that". Chasing shadows all night, being harried and chased every time they had possession (rare though that was) must be soul-destroying. They stuck at it though, but that had a lot to do with City and their pragmatic game management imo. Prior to this season it is not something we excelled at. When David Silva hangs up his boots we should reward him with a gold baton, he is like the world's greatest conductor, bringing the best out of already excellent artists. A great performance from our fans as well, sounded like a home game, except we are never that loud at home....
The only cloud on the horizon, for me anyway, is that the premier league does not prepare us for the challenges that the latter stages of the champs league will pose, but that is out of our hands obviously.
Finally, if there is a "cooler" player than Eddie in world football, i haven't seen him. What a signing.

Watching this game and several others this season I've decided my favourite thing is how we don't do the things that football teams are expected to do. We don't swing the ball in at every corner. We sometimes get free kicks outwide and we play a quick simple pass to keep the ball moving rather than swing it in. We don't cede possession at a drop ball :)

It's like we've decided to analyse every single little thing to figure out if it works and discarded much of the fundamentals that every team does. There was a moment second half when Joe Allen received the ball in loads of space and he took a touch to turn away from goal - i was surprised and it seemed like a weird choice because every one of our players would have taken the touch and moved forward into the space.

KDB is ridiculously imaganitive but he's also one of our most effective defensive players.

This team is unbelievable

We played well but I didn't enjoy watching it as it's Stoke away in their subbuteo stadium, inhabited by six fingered neanderthals who would rather boo us at every opportunity than get behind their team.

Never liked them since Pullis, can't stand em now.

And if any of them are intelligent enough to read this "oreet mi duck, you're Stoke, you're a fuckin joke mi duck".

I think both views are right. Our style is deceptively effective but I also think that in the recent intense run of matches and with all the injuries we quite rightly adopt a Job Done approach. Conserving energy and limbs for the next match.

Certainly in the second Arsenal game, as one of the pundits said, the game finished 3-0 because we decided three was enough.
