Stoke post match

Overall impression is we were excellent in the first half, really controlled the tempo and passed and moved nicely.

Second half, after conceding the penalty we were more hesitant and took more time with our passes, Silva and Sterling were particularly guilty of being hesitant and then making the wrong pass.

Was very impressed with Kelechi's composure for the third goal, any other striker would have been tempted to take a shot, even though there was a tight angle and the goalkeeper and two defenders had got back into the goal line area, instead he kept calm, looked up and found Nolito for our third goal, that was excellent team play, Guardiola will have loved seeing that.

Whatever, it was a forgettable performance but a memorable 4 goals scored away at Stoke and three valuable points which puts us at the top of the table, so we move on to the Steaua on Wednesday where we can hopefully confirm CL qualification.

Forgettable ? I'll always remember this game for the hard work and effort put in by the players today.

Key stat we ran 1km more per player (apart from the score)
Unbelievable( if true ) !
Considering that this team played midweek as well . They're human . Physiological fact that they tired in that 2nd half with the midweek game. Nevertheless the pressing game continues and it brings results especially with the quality we do have.
Expect kelechi to play most of the whole game if not all of it midweek. Pep might just rest a few .
Great win

I think Sky wanted to spin a yarn about Pep finding out about how hard the Premier League is at Stoke away and Mourinho's experience could make the Rags favorites... but we ruined the script with that scoreline. :)

Thought we played well today against a bunch of cloggers Dean had a shocker 2nd half especially the foul against Zab by Arnautović highlighted that..

3 points next...
What a joke of a pen given, if Smallthing is watching this he'll be shitting himself.

No wankfest from Sly Sports Nolito scoring 2

Im amazed noone mentioned the bardsley tackle in the first half...two footed studs raised..luckily silva got his leg out of the way....nothing mentioned on commentary except that it was a strong challenge......! He should have seen red for dangerous play

Great result, very encouraging performance. Quickly shutting up the people who thought the "magic" of the premier league would somehow counter Pep's tactics and make it impossible to pass it out from the back. We walked all over them and are still clearly well short of what we're capable of, the league should be worried. Always good to survive a Mike Dean game as well as he just does whatever the fuck he wants. Welcome to the Britania Pep and welcome to the Mike Dean Show.

How on earth mark Hughes has managed to convince people that he's changed anything at Stoke though will forever remain a mystery to me. The exact same hit and hope, long ball merchants who actively try and cripple anyone who tries to play the ball on the ground. He must have a lot of mates in the media. Absolute fraud of a manger

Exactly this.....we completely spoilt their script and are hating it

Quinn has taken his hatred of us to another level.

Let him hate us. Let everyone hate us it shouldn't matter. It should make us more partisan!

Come match day at least, we should be using everyone's hatred for us against them.

Sing songs about the cunts on matchday. Not much worse than having a full stadium hating on you. We should make a song for Quinn immediately!

Souness and Quinn look depressed that City won. Before the game they were saying how hard this game would be for Pep and he would struggle with this. Pep isn't a school kid ffs

Really good 3 points. Tough place to win. Certainly not the stylish play we had midweek, but considering there must be a lot of tired legs out there we still ran 10km further than Stoke as a team, this match was won with hard work! Well done lads, don't think we'd have won that last year.

Also might have to go find the guys on the transfer forum that said we had no impact players on our bench to which I disagreed hmm... Great impact from Nacho & Nolito.

I thought that was a seriously impressive performance. An absolutely ridiculous penalty decision threatened our control.

Exciting to think what we could do, but lets remember that we started equally well last season and petered out so feet on the ground,

A very tough game I thought. Stoke were aggressive and pressed hard which, along with the wind, made the game difficult to manage. We started to become overly ambitious in our passing as the pressure became more intense and that led to possession being lost more often than I would like, either out for a throw in or gifted back to Stoke.

John Stones looks so calm and assured at the back. Silva's movement and ball retention was top notch and Sterling, in the first half especially, looked dangerous every time he touched the ball.
We look solid at the back and very dangerous up front and that is a tough proposition for anyone. Nolito's movement and interplay is lovely to watch and Kalechi, despite miscontrolling the ball several times, set up two goals with his brilliant movement and footballing awareness.

For now, it is a case of picking up results until the injured players and the new ones return from injury. Along with an embedded philosophy and experience of playing it, these are going to be the key factors in an exciting season ahead.
