People could take their own lids.

I used to do that. Take an extra cap in my pocket. Then they stopped asking about drinks so I threw it away.

Inside the stadium they sell water with lids still on obviously they could become missiles. But I suspect that's OK due to the profits they make.

They’ve taken them off last few times I’ve bought them.

The official reason will probably be because it's unopened, when you buy them inside they take the lids off and have for a while, presumably so it can't be used as a missile.

The educated hooligan surely would take his own bottle top and simply replace the one they confiscated?

They do that because if empty bottles with the lid on are dropped, they roll around on the floor and if you stand on one you’re going flying.

They do the same thing with bottles of water at concerts.

It’s a totally reasonable health and safety measure.

Now not allowing people to take their own drinks at all is all about profiteering and again, it’s shit but the same at every licensed venue in the country.
