Stuart Pearce

He had to sell our best players, made us millions in the transfer market and kept the team in the premier league. Made some mistakes and the football wasn't pretty but I think people are a bit unrealistic on what we could expect from any manager working under those conditions.

And he bought Joe Hart.
He had no say or work in SWP's sale, he didn't produce him from the academy give him his chance or make him a better player so how did he make us millions in the transfer market

I have one good thing to say. He bought Joe Hart. Apart from that he was fucking clueless and totally out of his depth.

was it not eric steele who told him he must buy hart

he also bought
dabo
samaras (for same price we could have got dean ashton who would have walked from norwich to play for us)
corradi
trabelsi
thatcher
beasley
Matt Mills
Dickov

I continuously have a debate about him with one of my mates, I also was ready to pack it in as I just couldn't bring myself to renew. My mate looks at it differently, through hook or through crook he kept us up and if he hadn't its hard to imagine where we'd be now. I like to think the boredom of that season was preparation for the best football watching days of our lives.

remember when keegan left about 7 years ago and pearce pretty much said that if he wasnt givent the job he would be off as he was too good to be an assistant then?

7 years later and im pretty sure no prem clubs would touch him, neither would most championship clubs.

cheeky bastard with that ultimatum

I posed this question last week, however this thread is more appropriate.

Where does Pearce go? He will never be given the senior England Manager's job and he can't be U-21 manager forever. So based on his previous managerial experience with us and his showing as team GB manager, who on earth would take a punt on the fella to manage their club?

Personally, I think he'll fuck off abroad to 'expand' his coaching experience.

Christ, that's some list. It is hard to comprehend just how bad we were and how far we've come in a (relatively) short space of time.

And have absolutely no doubts about it, had Hughes stayed, Hart was a gonner.

Two seasons ago there were countless posters on here saying Given should be the number one over Hart. Hughes would have undoubtedly taken this course.

Oh hang who remembers this gem that he did
Lets pay Robbie Fowler 50k a week (i know he didnt sign him) but he put Fowler on fitness programme finally got him fit healthy and was starting to look above average for a shot shy team
what does he go and do let him leave for Liverpool for nothing as he didnt want to hold Robbie back
despite not having a pot to piss in he didnt even ask for half a million no its ok have him for nowt

One player there that cost any sort of money, what do you expect when you have nothing to spend?

I reckon there is a fair bit less than £10m spent on the players you've named. Hart is worth twice that.

Brought Joe Hart to the club
Almost got City into Europe but for Fowler's penalty miss
Played David James up front
13 match unbeaten run in 2005
Almost got City into FA Cup Semi-Final but for injuries
Didn't get relegated
City were skint

It appears that some of us have begun to forget our roots already. We were shit, utter, utter shit for a long, long time before Pearce managed us. Royle got us promoted and then relegated the year after. Why? Because, as a team, we just weren't good enough. KK came in and got us promoted with a semi-decent team which were capable of winning Div.1 but not really good enough to cut it in the Prem, and he spent big on old names to keep us up and we only just did that. THEN Pearce takes over. He tried his best with the limited resources he was given, and we all slag him off? His hands were tied. When given no real money to strengthen he was forced to throw the youth team in, and THEY weren't up to it, not him. For me he did what he had to do to keep us up, and it's kinda embarrassing to hear what some blues are saying IMO.
